View Full Version : Lockon Mods/Addons
As you all should be aware, Lockon has extensive support for mods and addons. There are a great many of these available for download. Most are installed using the ModMan or LoMan tools (I prefer ModMan). Some addons are installed manually.
In addition, you can create/download new skins for your aircraft. In multiplayer mode, each player will need the skin on their system if they're to see it.
The purpose of this thread is to share links for skins, mods or addons that you have installed, so that other LockOn players can benefit from them, and also see them in multiplay games.
ModMan 6.3.0.1 (http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=125&lid=991&ttitle=Modman_6.3.01#dldetails) - I use this for managing my addons.
On this page (http://bvr.jpn.org/lockon/mod/index_e.html), there are several mods I use:
Directional Airfield Icon - modifies the F10 map to show the correct runway direction for takeoff/landing
Short Weapons Label - shortens the names of missile labels when they're flying towards you, to avoid clutter!
Realistic Moon - makes the moon look .. well ... real!Blue Cockpit Lights mod (http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=75&lid=192&ttitle=Blue_A-10_and_F-15_Cockpit_lights_1.02/FC#dldetails) - Replaces the orange light with a realistic blue lights in the A10 and F15 cockpits.
I too have modman although not used it yet.
Any skins people have done feel free to throw them at me :D
sweet.. i was looking for this modman the other day. thanks.

My skin has gone to its' next level and has served to initiate me in to the world of "LOMAC Skinning". Now I know what's what, I can get stuck in. Epoch asked for a pink A-10 with lips, so that's next. Meanwhile if you want a Moo Skin, here's my first:

why are there mushrooms on the wings ?
Edit: oops forget that - I see it now. At first glance it looked like yummy fresh button mushrooms. Mmmm
His name is MOO and he will be 5 years old in May. He has been a constant companion of mine as YOU well know and he still appologises for p!ssing in your coffee when he was visiting you that time.
He is also a REAL person....
Hey Wes where the hell are the default texture files for the planes?.. i can't find any??
I'm familiar, but no expert with *.dds but i cant see the ones needed. I just wanted to whip up a quick A-10 skin.
Where are they hiding and in what format??? pretty please
Ok i figured it out.. and i posted in the wrong thread above, sry.
I downloaded a skin from http://www.lockonfiles.com and i can just use that as a template. Seems like a good workaround.
MT & Gunnyman
just got in from work, I am hoping to do a rough tutorial including all software needed to get the job done and how to ensure that all skins are fully CDDS compatible with Modman 6. Should be up soon if I can get my feckin' FTP software working.....
ps. Gunster, i aint forgot aboot yer gam0rz, just waiting 3 weeks for her to bring me home some dvd's from werk m8.

Epoch's Vicious Pink Plane (http://www.madcowmoo.com/lomac/skins/epoch/A-10_MCM_Tacteam_Epochsy_Pink_v1.0.zip)
The 1st [T&T] (Targets and Tailspins) Sqn officially has a new tagline:
"More Homoerotic than Top Gun".
All we need now is a picture of a big man with ripped muscles wearing nothing but a sheen of baby oil and a leopard-skin thong on the flight surfaces of Commando's F15 and Zippy and Bungle from Rainbow on mine, and we'll have more camp in our Lock-On sessions than Butlins can manage in an entire national franchise.
How do i install it?
Sir will need Modman 6.3.0.1
Sir will download same from http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&cid=125&lid=991&ttitle=Modman_6.3.01#dldetails
Sir will install Modman
Sir will download skinny
Sir will drop skinny (in its RAR or ZIP format) in to Modman/addons_fc folder
Sir will then start Modman, select Flaming Cliffs from splash screen thingy and let it do some sh!te answering yes or OK to any screenies appearing
Sir will then see this screen:
http://www.madcowmoo.com/lomac/tutorials/modman6301/modmanmainscreen.jpg
Sir will clicky on Mods Installer button
Sir will see this 'un:
http://www.madcowmoo.com/lomac/tutorials/modman6301/modmaninstall.jpg
Sir will find his moddy which he droppen in the Modman/addons_fc folder and highlight it and click Install
Sir will fire up LOMAC, and if it's a skin, Sir should find it in the drop down list at the bottom left of Payload screen where it has replaced an existing skin there (unless it has replaced a default load screen in which case Sir should gawk at his fancy skin the moment he opens the payload screen)
Sir will find me posting full skinny instructions at later date (probably when "Ye Ole H3ll fr33zetH 0v3r")

Use the CDDS Explorer section of Modman 6.3.0.1 and then choose one of the following texture files:
Lockon/Bazar/World/WorldTexturesBMP.cdds
Lockon/Bazar/World/WorldTexturesBMP1.cdds
Lockon/Bazar/World/WorldTexturesBMP2.cdds
Lockon/Bazar/World/WorldTexturesBMP.cdds
Each skin is made of basically a LEFT and RIGHT graphic, however F-15's use a FIN graphic for the backend with the 2 bits sticking up (where the rudders are....)
So you would have say for example:
MIG-29-PAINT-DEF-1-L.BMP
and
MIG-29-PAINT-DEF-1-R.BMP
...for the two halves of the MIG 29 skin, which is also one of 10 different built in skins for that plane. You CAN extract each skin file and then mess around with them in Photoshop. They extract as bitmaps so all that is really needed is to Modman them up by creating a package and selecting the CDDS option before compressing.
I promise to write my entire knowledge on the subject down better for everyone sometime REAL soon..........
Cheers Exo now i have the skins :D

Ta mate.. yeah this CDDS explorer is the bobby. All the skins magically appear!
Had a thought.
The F15 skin if we all have it, we're all going to be called MadCowMoo, unless of course we change it to reflect our own in game names, which then means loads more work on the skin.
However, i shall not be flying the pink wonder - ever :D
No worries wes, all good things come to thos who wait
Am beavering away on video tutes for Modman and skinning and such.
Regarding the name under the canopy, the Mooskin was just for giggles to get the ball rolling.
^^ sounds good mate..
i did a quick skin.. but only 1/3 of the skin was there..:o
The template was for only a part of the plane.
http://img242.imageshack.us/img242/5796/ssskinnj8.jpg
Yeah; the templates are split into Left, Right and on some, Tailplanes.
Just downloaded TacView, which should provide me with a bit of info as to where I'm going wrong when trying to engage Migs/Sus at range and when evading AAMs.
Was going to set about making myself a skin, but I found that somebody had already made one suitable for me...
...remember that incident on Tommy's first map when I was flying in crippled and shot to hell, gliding in on one engine through the fog with no ILS and no autopilot, and mistook the lights of a house for the approach lights of our runway?
Well...
http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules/Downloads/imageuploads/ScreenShot_025.jpg
available here: http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules.php?name=Downloads&d_op=getit&lid=649#dl
I shall be using it henceforth lol.
To install it and make it viewable in-game without it overriding the MooCow skin, you need to extract the three .BMP files to the Lock On\Bazar\TempTextures\ folder and rename them all to end in -2.bmp (as DEF-1.bmp is used for EXO's skin.).
Also downloaded TreeShaderMod2 - http://www.lockonfiles.com/modules/Downloads/fileuploads/TreeShaderMod2.zip#dl that makes trees genuinely opaque objects, fades them out better than the vanilla version of the game and makes them look a hell of a lot better in poor lighting conditions.
Gah, can't edit beyond 15 minutes:
UPDATED version of that skin available here:
http://www.mental-block.net/lockon/masaqsF15C.zip
It can be used with ModMan to install automatically or just extract it to Lock On\Bazar\Temptextures\
It's got the required name changes to make it compatible with Exo's skin, and I added my name to the tailplanes in a delicious blue and yellow.
It's not very camp but it truly refelects the average Masaq landing :D
Flippen ell! how do you install you own skin.. its doing my nut.
The file names or the method i'm using is not right
Here is my skin.. could any kind soul tell me how to get these so they install and SHOW UP in the list in payload.
Modman keeps on saying they are installed.. but i cant pick them, i.e it's not on the drop down list..
http://www.mental-block.net/lockon/MadTommy_Skin_WIP/MadTommy_Skin_WIP.zip
I've downloaded it and installed it but it just says "No Logo" in the modman installer. Not sure what else to try.

yeah i havent bothered with a logo yet... if i get it working i'll add a screen shot of it.. for the logo.
I should just be able to drop these in the temp texture folder.. but that doesn't work for me.
I'll figure it out at some point or i'll hound EXO
From what i can gather, you just save it to modman fc folder, then fire up modman and install and it should be ready in the drop list in LOMAC.
Hassle Exo, i would

Yeah i can load other skins through modman.. but for some reason i'm being 'cretinous' with my own!
Here's what you've not done - you've not packaged it up using ModMan:
1) Place the two files whereever you can find them easily.
2) Open Modman
3) Select "Mods Maker"
4) For "Addon Files" select the two .bmp files
5) For "Relative Install Folder" select the location that Modman should install them to - Bazar\TempTextures\ usually.
6) Hit "Add to Package"
7) Fill in all the other details - Name Type etc.
8) Select an image to use as a logo/screenshot. Doesn't matter what it is.
9) Enter text into the description as a readme. This is also shown in Modman.
10) Press "ZIP PACKAGE" to get Modman to bundle it all up
11) Save it someplace - I created a folder Modman\FC_addon\SkinZips\
12) Now, check the .zip you just created. It should have a directory structure containing your two .bmp files, a readme.txt and a config .lm3 (I think that's the extension) file that tells Modman what to do.
13) Close the .zip file, open up Modman's Installer, and it should have appeared in the list of available mods.
14) If it hasn't, click "ADD" from the top, navigate to your new .zip and select it
15) Install, and check in-game. Be aware that the game doesn't provide a new name for your skin - it just gets placed under the name of the existing "real" skins. Check all the available skins to see which one your skin has been installed under.
Tinkering with the filename will edit which skin yours replaces. For example:
"F-15-FIN-PAINT-R-DEF-1.bmp" (rear fuselage, wings), "F-15-FIN-PAINT-L-DEF-1.bmp" (fore fuselage, underside) and "F-15-FIN-PAINT-DEF-1.bmp" (tailplanes and rudders) fill the first available F-15 skin slot. Changing -1 to -2 makes it use the second, -3 the third etc. I renamed mine to -2 from -1 to allow me to have both my BA skin available and Wes' Cow skin. Leaving mine as "-1" would show it on my PC, but show me as flying in Wes' Cow skin to everybody else.
As requested by Epoch. Camo pattern with no big squadron badges etc, just name on the tailplanes.
Couldn't find a way to remove the yellow line on the leading edge of the tailplanes, nor the big numerals. I *think* they're controlled by the game itself (dynamic plane numbering - each successive aircraft in the same FG gets a different number) as neither appears in the skin itself.
Available from http://www.mental-block.net/lockon/epocha10.zip
Don't install using Modman (I haven't packed it using Modman) - just unzip the two .bmp files to your Lock On\Bazar\TempTextures folder. It uses the European1 skinslot.

OMFG!!! The template i started with had an 'x' for the number... but i didn't notice it.. and didn't realise the importance of it.
Thanks mate.. i must know at least 3 way to install skins... but if the file name is wrong nothing works!
I'm very glad you added that last sentence :D
*Grin* you muppet :p
Go test it and re-upload, and let's all have a butchers at it? :D

I've done all this, where about is the "payload" screen in game where I can select the skins and stuff, please.
I didn't realise that modman would be so eacy to use. Might go and d/l some more stuff from that list.
Right, this bit's kinda complicated...
Basically, when you load up a mission (let's say, the A-10 "Defensive CAS" mission).
From lockon startup screen:
"Open mission" -> double click "A-10 Missions" -> double click "Defensive_CAS".
The mission map will open up, showing you some planes and some flightpaths.
Now you need to find a particular flightgroup - yours!
On this mission it starts slightly south-east of the others, just to the right of a set of blue tanks. It'll appear as a black plane on a blue box, with a line headed North East towards some red tanks.
Left-click one on the plane - now in the right-hand side of the window you should see: A-10 Group "Dodge", of 2 planes.
The lead plane (selected by default) should have: "PLAYER" next to the "Pilot:" drop-down box.
If you see A-10 Dodge, with pilot = player, that's your plane. If it says anything else, keep left-clicking on other planes (carefully - clicking on the map itself will create new waypoints for any plane you've selected) - until you find it.
Once you've found it, towards the top-right hand side of the screen, you'll see four tickboxes:
Route
Payload
Targetting
BLANK (I think, I'm doing this all from memory lol)
Payload should be the only one selectable. Select it, and you'll find the payload screen. You can select different skins and different weapons and assemble a payload yourself, or you can simply use a pre-created set of payloads.
Enjoy!

I think the laser guided bombs work like the anti-ship missiles. But can only be used against static targets.
