A Boeing 777 crashed in London today; thankfully no-one killed. Plane's not in a good state though, quite possibly a complete write-off I should imagine.

Probably too little power. If he saw himself coming in too low he should have floored it and gone around. The fact he hit the deck suggests no power to escape out.

Good that nobody was killed.

Planes can land automatically if equipped with the 'Autoland' system. The crew and aircraft have to be Cat III certified to perform this approach, and also the conditions have to be right (wind, visibility etc). If you're ever in a plane and the landing is verging on excellent, it's a safe bet the pilot's arms were folded in that one!


I doubt this was an ILS error. Almost certainly pilot error (fatigue perhaps, but unlikely with a co-pilot). Either too little power set, or a mechanical problem with the engines providing too little power.

Shame the plane's fucked.
