I know you posted this before but which version did you buy?
I meant linky because I don't see any link to a review? :)
Mint :D
That is my review.
LOL
Sorry chap, thought you were linking to a mint review :p
C'mon... details! Cough up the details! I imagine it makes lockon like a billion times easier, not using the ridiculous keypad to look around? (Why oh WHY don't they have a mouselook toggle?!)
"wherever you look the in-game view/camera looks...it's the dog bollocks but costs £130 or so, ... so you had better really love LockOn!"
About all the details i need to know!
Lol yup. It makes a heck of a difference ...
Bombing run on some tanks. Drop your load ... pull away, slightly to the right. glance over your shoulder and see the wrecks. Confirmed kill. Brilliant.
It's my biggest bugbear about LO, to be honest. Maybe I should try using the padlocked views a bit more, but the whole having-to-press-the-keypad-whilst-trying-follow-a-target-and-keep-the-plane-in-the-air-and-talk-to-wingmen thing is a bit much at the mo lol.
Keypad is just a nightmare; new j/stick arrives tomorrow with two 8-way HAT switches, am hoping one of them might be programmable to act as a free look...
i couldn't even start playing this without a working HAT on the joystick.. forget the number pads
I didn't even have to configure my basic stick.. lockon did it for me.
Yeah - previously I used a simple Logitech Extreme 3D with one hat. That worked out of the box for mouse look.

translation of the above:
"previously I used what common people might have - an absolutely dreadful joystick with only one hat - thank god for my X52"
lol thats what i use :(
why would you have 2 HATs anyway??? you cant look in two directions at once! go on tell this nub what a nub he is and explain..:p
I have absolutely no idea.
Presumably you can use one of them as a... I dunno... a...? Thingy? To make the plane do... something?
It's all moot anyway, re-checked the actual Saitek website (as opposed to the review I'd read before to confirm it *was* worth forking out yet more cash this month on PC stuff) and it's only got ONE hat switch, but TWO shift buttons.
Got 5 buttons on the stick itself and 4 on the base, plus the two shift... will be a bit overwhelmed I think.
I'm expecting many moments of "oooh shit, that's not landing lights that's a maverick I just slammed into a hangar"
I have no hat switch, i switch to F2 view and use my mouse.
Job done
Even in a dogfight? How'd the work out for you? I find I end up spending too much time with the mouse view whizzing around giving me headaches, and can't keep track of someone to follow them through a persuit.
Lol Commando.
I use one hat for moving the target designator. Another hat was used for mouse-look, but TrackIR renders that redundant. There's another I don't use - so that's two spare hats :D

I find it easy just to track anyone behind or below me. then switch back to F1 for cockpit view as i don't need my keyboard except for chaffs, all me weapons are on the stick. A hat switch would be useful, but i'm used to not having one.

Do you have 2 spare heads for the spare hats :D
Well, got my new stick (Saitek Evo only, none of this fancyass posher-than-HMQ X52 nonsence), and having spent almost an hour working out what the hell I want on it, I'm going to to try it out.
May be some time getting used to this lol.
