Operation Flashpoint

Has anyone got or played Operation Flashpoint?

I know it's not SOF2 and it is bloody hard to play and get on-line but there is nothing else like it. Just play the "escape from behind enemy lines" mission to experience real panic and fear.

If you don't know, it's a mulitplayer squad based military sim. You can drive cars, tractors, jeeps, trucks and tanks around massive islands with roads, buildings and forests.You can also fly helicopters and jets. The built in mission editor allows you to create any game type you want, co-op battles, capture the flag, deathmatch, demolition, racing, ...

It has been underrated as an on-line game because the previous versions had sluggish net code, but that's been fixed now. Go on give it a go, how many times in SOF2 do you wish you had a tank? Now you can :smile:

It's out on budget now and it's worth it just to play Tractor racing!

I just remember playing it a work on the LAN and it was a great laugh. We made up loads of stupid games. Like racing from one end of the island to the other in Skodas, while one of us hunted the racers down in an Apache Gunship :lol:

Yep, it is confusing! There are so many Add-Ons & Expansion Packs for Flashpoint but they all need the original game Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis to work.

The new budget version is endorsed by PC Gamer and released by Mastertronic.

Operation Flashpoint is old hat mate,

I have been playing RavenShield + AthenaSword expansion pack...

This is so much better than Op Flashpoint and is slower, better tools and stuff.

For team play it really is great...

I have available OP FP and some exp packs if anyone is interested.. (its pirate copy mind!)

Op Flashpoint is quite good for everything that you can do. it's big lots of vehicles and a good laugh, but is kinda old hat.

Saying that there isn't anything out there except BF1942 - Desert Conflict that allows you to use vehicles.

Other points of note:

- Check out the swimming, any time and any place, try diving off one of the cliff faces in to the drink.
- Theres a level that you can use a fecking Hang-Glider in whilst being shot at by a helicopter
- The AI is something else, they call each other to the scene of gunfire, making it better that you think before you open fire.
- I spent half an hour sniping Lesser Spotted Rarebit Blue Finned Salmon in a rock pool from 1000 yards.
- I then spent another 15 minutes playing Skeet Shooting with the flocks of birds that fly around the gaff.
- The physics of the game is SOOOOOOO sweet. Weapons handle like the real thing with plenty of recoil.
- You will ABSOLUTELY crap your undies the first time you engage one of the demonic little Hybrid bastards and run out of ammo. The fuckers leap through the air and give you the 'ole slice and dice routine up close and personal.
- Sniper rifle has a number of zoom settings up to x18 and kicks like a mule.
- I am pleased to see you can peek around corners, and shoot at the same time. Should keep all our "le4n0rZ" happy !!!
- The peachy things make the difference, like the helicopter patrol called in when you've blown a hole in an exterior wall and made too much noise. If you indeed "r L33t0r", see if you can snipe the gattling gun fooker outta the chopper whilst it's searching for youse.

It's been a VERY long time since an FPS grabbed my attention, and this is certainly it.

For some strange reason it already lags ass even with all lowest videosettings on CoD :cry:
