View Full Version : Invalid CD Key
Just had to reinstall windows, and of course 2142.
Now I cant connect online, I keep getting invalid cd key.
I've tried the registry fix posted by EA, no luck. Tried the 2 files to fix it, no luck.
posted a support ticket, waiting for a response.
Removed and re-downloaded both EA Downloader and 2142, still no luck, in the mean time I removed all EA registry entries. Guess what? No luck.
I'm seriously considering quiting 2142, and I will NOT be buying another EA title ever again.
You've recently changed your online name, so maybe if you try with the old one? Long shot but it could be a problem?
Yes i'm cluthcing at straws. Looking at the totalbf2142 forums isn't much help

Still getting this error, got some instructions from EA, still no use.
The name change was for BF2.
Done another removal and re-download, sweet waste of time, it takes 6 hours to download again, just to find out it still does'nt work.
i'm stuck for ideas matey, sorry. It's the download version you have aye?
as you know, it works, I had to create a new user in windows and reboot. Load up the new user and it worked.

WTF! Despite the EA registry "fixes" not working, that sounds like a registry fook up.
Why can't developers just finish a game before they release it, i understand the need for patches and updates, but BF2142 was more buggy than the amazon rain forest in the height of buggy season.
World of Warcraft was like this when it was first release - buggy as hell, yet people still played it because they were paying for it.
at a guess i'd say there was something buried i the registry that was not obvious or easy to find. Creating a new account created a new entry in the registy and this was'nt corrupt.
does this mean you have to start all over again matey with ranks?
no m8e, its windows users not 2142 users or soldiers that affected.
But now I get constant PB kicks today, cant even finish my loadout before I get kicked. Updated Pb and still no difference.
got a bit further, its a hardware PB global ban.
God only knows why, but I really have had enough of this game now.
Sent a ticket to evenbalance and one to EA too, so hopefully it should be lifted soon.
PB hardware bans are almost always file corruption or network packet issues. Happens on most PB games. Usually sorted but highly irritating nontheless.
Have you looked in your servers PB logs to see what they say? They may have more info about the kicks. I'll look for you if you tell me the last time/date you were booted.
Update: The PB GUID you're on now differs from the PB GUID you've had for the last few weeks. The GUID shouldn't change since it's linked to your CD/product key.
I'm not familiar with how the downloaded versions get licenced, but do you enter a CD key? If so, is it always the same? Also, the GUID linked to the PB ban is not linked to your name/IP/nationality and is listed on PsB as clean. A definite file corruption somewhere.

I don't know mate. Answer my question re. CD keys etc. If you enter the same key every time you install then yes, reinstall. If you don't enter the same key when you reinstall, then there's no point reinstalling. If that makes sense !
for the EA link there is no CD KEY provided, I assume it gets my key from EA when I login to my player account when I first run the game.
Reinstall didnt work anyway.
Just had a look at the PB log a few minutes ago, not sure if it differs for me, but it goes to evenbalaance, checks the GUID, comes back, then kicks me.
Have you given EB the GUID? Maybe give them the one that's getting kicked, and the one you've previously been playing with.
I reckon the GUID is linked to your EA account, so it would be daft if it simply changed each time you install. If that was the case, you could cheat, reinstall, and get away with it.
OMG, finally got it working, I had to run system restore all the way back to the begining to get it working. But for how long?
time will tell.
