They've made the photoshop templates available for nearly all of the aircraft currently in RoF, making it much easier to create good-looking skins.
Instead of having to paint over the default skins carefully to preserve detail, you can simply paint away and the finer details (like brasswork etc) will be kept intact on another layer. The templates also include the standard levels and colour adjustments required to keep the plane from looking too garish ingame, too.
So I've passed some time between my night shifts this week tweaking away at some new skins.
The first, harking back to my British Airways skin in Lock On, was this one. A BA pilot who plays the game wanted to use it for multiplayer, so it carries the reg of his aircraft:
