View Full Version : Arma 2 issue

The last few days I've had an issue I have never had before Arma 2 will minimise itself to taskbar and is unrecoverable and will sometimes give an out of memory error.

The Arma mouse pointer stays behind on the screen but cannot be used to click on anything , however when I the move the pointer to my other screen it changes back to the default microsoft pointer and I can then close the arma icon as normal in the main screen after clicking on the second screen.

I have had limited time to resolve this thus far as I have been mostly at work, I have completely removed both arma 2 and OA and did a clean fresh install of both but the problem persists.

As far as I'm aware nothing has changed from the point where it worked fine to the point its now at.

I did remove the ATI drivers which I have been running since early June without issue and let windows install its own old crappy ones instead , and oddly it works fine but looks shit, obviously you'll be thinking its a driver issue but if thats the case then why did it work fine from early june until 2 days ago ?.

Any thoughts, tips or suggestions would be welcomed, maybe the dual screen setup went amiss ?

P.S.

OA works fine

I'd suggest a driver reinstall. My ATi display drivers kill themselves randomly, perhaps they can kill themselves without actually being installed?!
Perhaps delete the profiles in MyDocs if they aren't deleted during an uninstall.

Tried running straight from the exe without any "-extension "s?
if OA works fine... Bah, who knows.

Sorry no real help here.. not an ati user and have had no issues with arma2.

Maybe try a different ATI driver, either an older one or one in beta? An ATI issue i'd say from what you have described.

A mate of mine has the same and I think so does Olsson,

Google "ArmA 2 Crash to desktop still running"

Seems loads of people are having this problem but there seems to be no fix

Yep thats the one, odd that its just started now though, guess I'll be looking for a fix then on my own, or I may just roll back from one of the images of my HD I keep

definately a driver issue with second display being the main cause I disabled the second screen and it worked ok :( cant have that though so have to keep digging I guess for a solution

not a driver problem as I first suspected ,still using the same driver as before and all is well , the only thing I can suggest after exhaustiveley reinstalling everything from an image of the HD taken a week or so before the fault happened is that an instance of using six updater was interrupted (connection lost) or addon sync was updated or pasting the config file from Arma 2 to OA , as and when I eliminate these three I will post again, personaly I think six is the culprit .....watch this space

Here's what fixed my problem :)

go to video settings > advanced and turn down the Graphics memory (or whatever it's called). It's the second dropdown on the left.

vVidia cards have an option "Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration". I set this to 'Single display mode', which basically prioritises my main (left) monitor and doesn't bother with the other. This helped resolved graphic issues in most games I've played over the past few years.

Perhaps there's a similar setting on your ATI which might help?
