Hey guys, can you give me any tips on what you guys have done to get the T&T DS running in RoF? Asked in the RoF DS forum but got no replies yet.

I got Lefty to do something his end (unsure what) that allowed our DS to be visible in the MP list, but though I gave done numerous restarts I simply cannot get into the server myself, nor have the several people I have asked to try it.

The damn thing worked under 1.08, and all I have done is take the 1.09 version of the .sds and edited in the missions Chill made that should work and "//ed" out the stock missions from the rotation, then copied the server username and password into that .sds file.

Is there something else I need to do to get this flippin' thing working?

One your gaming PC (not your server) can you log in with your server's credentials? Can you create a profile?

Have you tried the stock missions?

Failing that, best I can suggest is you PM me your server details and let me take a look at it.

I logged on from here with the server details and did the pilot profile thing, but it was still invisible until Lefty did something at his end, server is visible now. After that I added some lines into the netbuild.cfg file with server_ip and client_ip values and things began to work a little.

Players can even connect too, and it's only taken me three days to get this far <sob>

Can't try the stock missions any more, I deleted them when I thought that anything from 1,08 would'nt work under 1.09 (and I couldn't make the ME work on the dedi-box to convert them), so in the bin they went, sadly the bin is emptied rather regularly I think and there is no sign of them any longer, so without a re-install I'd have to upload the copies from my local machine up to the server box.

Just shows you how "n00bi5h" I am at this...(sorry for the leetspeek, but I thought my actions deserverd it)</sob>

Getting serial 10017 connection errors now as the server doesn't seem to be able to send out the mission files at all, even those that were working last night.

Probably our server dedi box is not beefy enough or something, though our server guru tells me that the link to the internet from it is a "tier 1" connection, whatever that is, and speedtesting sites cannot even measure it properly.

I find it unlikely you'll be on a tier 1 connection.

Who's your server provider? What's your server spec?

We use a Rackage server, and Gonzo (our server guru) works for them, other than that I have no idea what he's takling about.

He posted a while back when I was getting the dedi-key what we had.

--------------------------------------------
the server is a dual cpu dual core opteron with 4gb ram running at 2.2ghz per core on a 1gb link

bandwidth is not an issue as the speedtest site is unable to cope with our tier 1 link

-------------------------------------------------

there you go.

--edit--

Thinking on it I suppose that means the 10017 errors from the Hussar server are not something to do with the dedi-box itself then, but have to be either mission or dserver.exe related.

Right, I got Gonzo to do an uninstall of Rof then go through and manually nuke anything that was left afterwards, then do a re-install.

Hussars currently has the stock missions loaded, but both Gonzo and myself have been able to connect a good few times now and we are not seeing the 10017 file transfer error.

Just need some pilots now to join and check for lag and 10019 mission change errors.

I saw it running yesterday and when I saw how many aids were turned on I was turned off :D:D:D:D

It's your server and all that but "jumping into the cold water" is better than getting used to all the aids imo. In IL2 I played with external camera and map icons online for a long time so it became really hard to get used to full real and others said the same. Still it all depends on how determined and ambitious they are to be good at this game. If they play it very casually they might be best off this way, I don't know.

If you like I could maybe even try to help with practice sessions since most of you (if not all) are uk based right?

Most are UK yeah, Lars is in Sweden.

Been trying to get interest up in the ranks, but I'd have to say thet the game state at present isn't helping matters.

I noted in a RoF forum post that a couple have even removed it totally from their drives, and two are almost at that point. One due to the fact that it just takes too long to get into the action unless you are really lucky with mission starts when you join a server, and Lars is one of those who have been presented with such a large performance hit after 1,08 he has only just updated to 1.09 to see how things run now.

How the same code can have such a massive difference accross systems is the problem, there are just too many different reasons that could be the cause.

The dedi box gets paid for whatever, so even if the rest of the hussars drop the game it would only be a problem with resource usage down the line that might kill the RoF server off. If the rest trash the game I will tweak down the realism setting, in fact, I might just do that anyway, I can always put them back up should the need arise.

tbh m8 its probably the amount of pilot aids that are turned on as Imp said from what I've seen the "popular" servers dont have many turned on at all.

T&T server only had freindly aircraft waypoints and prewarmed engine I think , the others I have been on had even less , just prewarmed engine I remember.

Why not try that for a while and let folks know on ROF forum thats what your doing I suspect you'll get more visitors ...worth a shot tho isnt it.

I started a multiplayer server of my own earlier and had Eddie and a few others on it running stock maps and a cpl of dogfight missions I made using Lasers generator (I'm not skilled enoughto make my own) and it ran well without problems and Miggins did the same with the Hussars server , looks like its the maps that are causing the problem .

Tides of War ,CoCo's and J99 run a set of maps that seem to work ok I'll ask somebody that knows TOW if they can shed any light coz I dont speak Russsian or German :)

Left it running stock missions until I can work out what I am doing wrong with the custom ones.

Only auto level flight, friend\enemy icons, subtitles and warmed engine are ON right now I think.

Imp mentioned that it might be an idea to turn off the global stats too, but I just looked at the server and there seems to be 8 players in it right now, so I'll find the toggle to turn that off next time I have a fiddle with things in the .sds
