Just managed to get things mostly installed and running on the new PC (finally, who would think that W7 would automatically hide HDD's that are empty, so that you install the OS 5 times before working out that your non-OS drives were actually there all the time so you didn't have to have disassembled everything 4 times to make sure everything is connected physically), and it seems to work fine.

Installed RoF and had a look at the SP with everything on high, and it seemed to be smooth, but then it was better on my old system on SP too.

Can't get the mic to work in reliably TS though, sometimes it's fine, the next time I open TS I'm muted and cannot unmute myself, but I'm pretty sure that I'll figure it out eventually.

For those interested the new system scores in the windows thingie are
CPU (i7 860@2.8) 7.5
RAM (6Gb) 7.5
Graphics (Gainward GTX 295) 7.2
Gaming 7.2
HDD 5.9

Thanks for trying to help me out with RoF performance on my old PC and bearing with me on your server with my massively long load times.

Hope to see some of you in the air soon guys.

I can play ROF maxed with more than acceptable fps with less scores than you so you'll have no problems.

Looks like an excellent system!

Still, remember RoF needs both multiple cores and high clockspeed for smooth framerates in all circumstances. I'd consider overclocking. For reference, I overclocked my Q9550@2.83ghz to a very stable 3.4ghz and it made a HUGE difference in RoF. You can Google for some pretty reliable OC guides. YMMV, though.

As for your GTX 295, great choice! Just make sure you get the latest drivers which boosts SLI performance in RoF. Otherwise, you're using only one of the two GTX 275 cores present on the card.

And if you have some cash left, do consider an SSD to install RoF on. Even a cheap one will drastically reduce your loading times. It's easily the most rewarding upgrade you can make.

Just got the latest driver available fron nVidia and plopped it onto the system.

I was originally planning on an SSD for the OS and selected games, RoF being one, but when it came to pricing the kit, an SSD, even the cheapest, would have meant skimping somewhere else.

As it is I had to downgrade the monitor I was really after and scrub right around anything to do with sound, so though everything looks nice everything also sounds a bit pants as I'm either using the speakers on the monitor or my old stereo headset.

Still managed to go 180 over budget too. :(

Such is the way of building a top-end PC... unless you're rather rich, there's always tradeoffs :(

However, looks like a very nice system and sure you'll have no problems with RoF now! Look forward to seeing you on the server :)

Had a blast today in your server.

I don't think the Hussar server has been updated yet, at least I can't connect to it any more. I've mailed our server guy, I can't even access the server desktop to see.

Probably best that way to be honest, I could probably kill the whole box if I were given that sort of access. I only hope a better front end arrives soon that I can access like the other servers we run.
