Don't report me as MIA just yet, as I'll be off for the next two weeks. Going on holiday (belated honeymoon, to be exact) to sunny (stormy?) Florida.

See you soon!

Florida eh? Have fun!

And if you are on the north eastern part of the peninsula I would recommend St. Augustine as a stop. The oldest city in the U.S. and a very nice place to just walk around and enjoy. It is just south of Jacksonville.

Enjoy!

Dude, drop me a line and I'll come buy you and your new bride a drink or sumthin. I live in Daytona Beach (only about an hour drive from Orlando)

Hello from subtropical Key West, Florida!

I never could've imagined the temperatures we're getting here. Close to 100F all week.

The thing that strikes me most is that houses here have central cooling instead of heating. Just walking around outside feels like being fully clothed in a humid sauna.

That said, I'm loving the US so far. Friendly, laidback people (though I suppose it can be quite different from state to state). Pretty good food, too (I was expecting the worst... I'm looking at you, UK). And, of course, massive cars with automatic transmission that maneuver like battleships on roads the size of shipping lanes, all this with tiny speed limits.

It's quite the opposite from home and at the same time so familiar.

Oh and thanks for the invitation, Thunderbolt, though we probably won't make it, seeing as we'll be in Key West till Thursday and already flying back to Belgium from Miami on Friday. We might be back next year to visit Orlando, though.

The distances here are also something I need to get used to. Driving all the way down to Key West from Miami Int'l on our first day (after 9 hours of flight) was something I had seriously underestimated. Absolutely breath-taking vistas, though.

Anyhoo, I'll see you guys in a bit.

The year i decided to go to florida hurricane katrina hit

although since i was in orlando we only got the tail end of it.

It was a very strange experience to see all the news reports about what to do in a storm.
