Hey dudes,
heres something I came across on the PR forums.
http://www.battlefront.com/

It looks crap, but its like an ARMA RTS game. I downloaded the demo and played it for an hour. It feels good and strategic. Going to play it some more to see if I think its worth getting.
Anyone here heard of it?
EDIT:
Just did another mission where I had to secure a town with a US Army company? (2 platoons worth of stryker infantry). I came out with a total victory on the easiest difficulty. Lost 13 men and another 15 wounded.
I like how realistic this game feels. You dont see much of the enemy so you really have to play it out like PR or ARMA. Carefully scout out the terrain, set up a covering team, let the other team move in. When the moving team spots something the covering team opens up. But it goes really deep.
You can enter any house you see and specify wether you want them on the 1st, 2nd or rooftop. Wich direction they face, if they have a covering arc of fire, just let them surpress, light surpression, target, scout etc. etc.
For vehicles goes the same. You need line of sights, but when you got something like the Mk19 grenade launcher you can set up a spotter on a high building and let him guide in the mk19 nades.
Bringing in off-map mortar support is different than usual as well! You click on a unit who is bringing it in, than click the area, the size of the area, how heavy you want it, how long you want, what type of target it is, and than confirm it.
Smoke screens work (just like in COH) and for now the game feels like a really nice Strategy simulator. One of the games I played, I didnt move for to long and suddenly I had BMP 3's with some infantry on my flank!
The game costs 35 dollars btw, just checked there website. For now Im going to have some fune with the demo but I might get this XD

Played this before off a demo disk, its good but feels clunkly to my memory. However I'm downloading it to have another look as I can't claim remember to much about it :D

Ohyes, it does feel clunky to me 2. The interface and the way you have to control things isnt as smooth as with most modern RTS's. Im still holding my money on this. But for a few games besides PR it seems like a nice game :)
You can also play it in turn-based mode so Im going to check that out as soon as I get back from grocerie duty.
Cool that you'r downloading it. Maybe theres online coop in the demo, or even against each other.
EDIT:
had a look over at there forums and theres a ton of info on tactics and gameplay tricks there. Seems like a PR like community who are concernced with real life tactics and simulating real life things.

Just been playing this. I like it but my god i wish the camera would bugger off and die.

seems good and would be hard to master just hate that i can point and click to order you have to set waypoints.
And that there is not attack this way point so you can prioritise targets =/
Apart from that looks alright and plays alright although will take alot of time to get used to.

Actaully doom there is. Theres the ARC command in wich you can set a zone to watch. Or the 2 fire/surpress commands.
If I understood what you meant XD, and yea that does takes some getting used to. Not activating a unit and ordering it with a simple right or left click...
Vilhelm: Yea! The camera is the most annoying part of the game :P Shame its such a big part of it as well :P :P
EDIT:
DAMN! They even managed to incorporate the Radio and communications links troughout your army! When you want to request fire-support, you need to quickly consider wich unit you are requesting it with. For example, a sl has only a field radio, if he calls it in, your CAS or Arty might be way of target (happened a lot with my missions :P) but if you use a tank, it has a much better communications set-up in it, so its going to be more on target!
Same with unit cohesion and morale!

(copied from my Pr forum post)
Been playing the demo on and off today and I think that while it is clunky and as much as I hate the camera it is overall pretty good fun and I’d like to buy it.
HOWEVER
I just looked at their site and the prices for a game like this nearly knocked me off my chair :o
If I want the game and the British forces pack it'll cost me $55 (£33.50, €39) heck if I want the Marines addon (which I do) as well then it'll cost me $70 (£42, €49).
I'm sorry but that’s just far to higher price for a game like this, brand new 'Blockbuster' titles come out at less. I refuse to pirate a game from a small dev team like this but dam… that’s alot of money for a clunky Indie game.
Drop the prices, then we'll talk.

Oh yes! Im with you on this one Vilhelm. Once again :salute:
I think the base game cost is perfect. But if you add in all the expansions!!!! That is a lot! I'll try and get the base-game, see how that is, and than see if I can find expansions in the sea somewhere.

Also mine keeps crashing because of my pc's lack of Ram. This game is asking for 1.7gigs of RAM ffs.
Proper love hate relationship between me and this game atm.

I've whored myself out and downloaded the base game, its the same as the demo just a list of missions and a campaign which is again just a list of missions. Its good but I'm not sure how long it will be interesting long term
That said the tank mission was awesome, charging Abrams straight up the centre and knocking out a good 15-20 pieces of armour (T-55's, T-72, BMP3's and T-90s mainly) only to get utterly raped by their reserves who got onto a hill behind me and knocked out about 2/3 of my tanks in the opening salvo.

haha sweet :) hearing this I'll do the same :) I was wondering if the base game had a bunch of missions in them. Its just the fact that Ive played the demo missions to much now, so I know how to do them.
Good to know :) I think I'll be the same as you as liking this game. For now its fun, but how long will it stay fun.

Been playing the Campaign a bit :) I can say its still fun to play a mission per day. Just had one where I played with an compagny level stryked army and neeed to cros a bunch of fields.
Im glad I didnt buy this game however. Cause it has a lot of bugs. Even when I updated it to one patch back. Its not the latest but the one before that.
For me, its trenches that pop up when Im hovering over them with my move order, objectives not going down. That sort of stuff. I might buy an expansion or something in the future when I have a job on the side.
Its a good game, but I also feel that it gets repetetive. Lay down fire on the building, let a squad move in, clear it, and on to the next...
