View Full Version : X52 - Controls
Hi!
I am momentarily trying to make some sense out of the massive amount of different controls.
What is most disturbing so far is that I cant just assign a button on my X52 by choosing the function I want to bind and then click the button I want to assign it to. Apparently I have to choose the button and assign it by picking it out of a dropdown menu.
Maybe I am getting something wrong here but what is the best way to go all about setting up the configs ?
Also should I assign a button on my joystick to every possible switch, knob and button I can see in the cockpit?
Really could use some directions in this department. :)
Cheers guys! :salute:
I created a profile for BS in the x52 sofware and left BS's controls as default.
I have a profile created if you wish to look it over - each keypress on the joystick gives a readout on the MFD as to what it does ingame
Yes I would like that very much.

Thanks man.
Seems to work with my X52.
But for some reason my game wont accept any input by my keyboard anymore. Now when I start an SP Instant Action mission to check out my controls I says I have to press "Pause/Break" to start the game. Guess what doing so does zip. Double-Checked my configs. Pause is declared as Pause.
I am really starting to get upset with this.
Well after reinstalling the game kindly allows me to use my keyboard again.
Odd
AFAIK any mission, single or multi will start 'paused'
I know of no reason why my profile will dissable keyboard input
edit: By the way - in my profile all 'modes' are the same (1,2 & 3) with the exception that mode 2 switches the weapon release onto the trigger - I find is difficult pressing the thumb switch when rocket strafing.
Okay thank you mate.
What I did I just took your config and used it without any alterations.
I am not sure but should there be some sort of impact if I meddle with the throttle ?
It appears nothing is happening.
Anyway I am going to take a deep look in the various tutorials.
See where that is leading me.
not too sure what you mean .. if you are talking about the x52 throttle quadrant then this should alter blade pitch which has a direct impact on height .... if your talking about heli throttle this will alter engine rpm ....this is normally left on auto so I have no mapping for this except pg up and pg dn on keyboard
Well I probably wasnt sure my self what I meant in the end.
During the last couple of hours I was trying to do a cold start all by my own in a mission I created (opened editor and put myself on the next best airstrip :) ) only utilizing the manual. That was quite enjoyable.
However after I managed to start up the second engine the chopper took off all by its own. My question is how can I prevent that ?
Also you are talking about blade pitch and rpm. Which of both should I alter when it comes to changing my altitude ?
The heli collective stick (which the x52 throttle should be mapped to) will alter the blade pitch - more pitch = more lift.
The actual engine throttle (little yellow levers on collective) will directly affect your engine RPM (and rotor RPM) If you mess with these levers you'll see your RPM rise and fall.
The engines also run the generators so if you take your RPM too low you loose AC power.
Just re-installed my BS after an OS change - Few things worth noting
By default the collective is mapped to the thumb slider - this needs to be changed to x52's throttle
zoom view needs assigning to thumb slider
both are done in games controls > axis commands menu
also go into DCS install folder and rename:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\bin\stable\lua-direct_output.dll
to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Eagle Dynamics\Ka-50\bin\stable\lua-direct_output.dll.old
DCS tries to output data to the MFD but its not fully implemented yet and causes the MFD to go blank when in game.
