Here's a development to make the commander role more enjoyable while keeping him focused on the strategic and communication aspects of his job. Image:...

Mega that they are actually doing this.

Will be nice to see more commanders, just hope they aren't all just going to be doing it in order to mess about with the UAV.

The UAV will become a really useful tool. SL to CO comms will be essential to get the best out of this. Looking forward to seeing it.

Seems epic

But after thought i wonder how it will impact on the commanding aspect.

Can you still issue orders while controling it. Can you leave the UAV screen then come back to it. For example to issue an area attack. If you can it will be epic =P

SL3: CO, SQ3 Requesting Recon Flyover East of our position over

CO: Copy that SQ3 Overflight inbound.... You've got hostile on the roof NE armed with RPGs, Showing heavy reinforcements approaching from south of you now

I think this will solve the Commander problem, there'll be a painful amount of noobs messing around at first but by helping them become better well have an arseload of decent commanders

With the advantage of being ableto see the enemies movements for ten minutes at a time a team without a CO vs. one with is totally fucked, plain and simple.

Imagine building a firebase, you see enemy approaching it and it may become compromised, send in a squad to intercept them :D

Im with Doom on this one, and Cain, they say you cant see it THAT clear. I HOPE they are right. Cause I would HATE a situation you just describe. Means the Squads dont have to look out and keep a low situational awareness, because they have a CO looking out for them.

Also means that flanking around will be pointless, as they will shift with you, cause the CO is up there watching you flank, and telling them to rotate.

Im really surprised people are embracing this so happy! People where calling Mumble a wallhacking tool. But I think this is more of a hacking tool than Mumble.

But the dev's already said that its not that easy to spot them so I'll wait and see before issueing a final verdict XD I love the idea to fly over the area to position the troops exactly where I want them. Or alert them of possible enemy positions. But at the same time I'm "scared" of what it will do.

In BF2 they could be shot down by .50 etc. I'm presuming this is still the case.

This has been said by Dzbao:

dbzao;1089634']You can open your commander capslock map while the UAV is flying and do all the normal stuff commander does. Then you press capslock to go back to the UAV. You just go back and forth.

No minimap icon. If we put a map icon it would show up for both teams. We could spawn an icon every X seconds, but imo it's not really needed that much.

I really don't like the idea of locking and shooting it down with AA as it would be just too easy, making the UAV useless.

It would be good if they could be shot down. Realistic too. I'm dissapointed that this will, presumably, be another mirror balance thing, with both teams having access to it...

You're right.

The Insurgent UAV is good to go.

All we need now is some radio chatter in the background to make it feel that little more real!

Hmmm.. Strap some explosives on the man and you could argue that he's the ammunition for the insurgent version of a hellfire missile rather than manning it.
