View Full Version : Bob Squad
Katash and I logged onto these guy's ArmA2 sever this evening; they were testing some Catch the Flag maps they'd put together.
Couple of them were on, playing with the server set to Hardcore mode - no nametags, no auto-positioning on the map, all landmark/compass/map reading based navigation (which was confusing as hell but awesomely good fun at the same time).
Anyways, they're got a website - http://www.bob-squad.co.uk/ - and a bunch of them play most nights.
Seem like a decent enough group of guys with a similar ethos - keep the idiots out through good teamplay and such, not so much a clan as a group of mates.
Might be interesting to get us and them together one evening, have a play and see how it goes.

Hey guys, just thought i'd pop my head in over here after meeting up with a couple of your lads tonight. Even though we were just testing some CTF maps, its nice to meet like minded people who enjoy the tactical element and having to actually do some map reading :)
We'd definatly be up for getting together for a good session some time, its bloody hard to find decent gamers nowadays. We're only a small team, in what you might call semi-retirement. We've been gaming since 2001 and done our stint on the leagues etc. So we just play now to relax and have a laugh (tactically of course :p).
Like Masaq said, we are much more a group of mates than a "clan". We've all known each other for years and meet up reguallry. Anyway enough of an introduction, you guys are always welcome in our server. Hope to have some good games in the future.
I can be contacted on MSN mainly :- sdbob@hotmail.co.uk
Cheers.

P.S. Please excuse our website, we're having some techical problems atm.
Cool, cheers Shadow sounds excellent. I'm sure bob-squad rings a bell.. can't think where from though.
"its bloody hard to find decent gamers nowadays.".. ain't that the truth
Hmmm i see you play LockOn.. flaming cliffs?.. been missing playing this.
Hi Shadow .. welcome to our forums.
The guys that were on your server last night spoke very favourably of you all. Would be great to get a game going.
And yeah Tommy - some Lockon would be great!
Sounds like we could get a good couple of games together!

Thanks for the welcome guys, we do indeed play LOCKON and also DCS Black Shark. Although most of our time atm is spent on ArmA 2, myself and a couple of other guys play DCS whenever we get the chance.
I'll have a look at designing some kind of joint coop map for ArmA for us to have a play with one night, its just finding the time atm.
im getting arma 2... in return, you should get bf2 and project reality!!
I got it about 2 hours ago, just installing it now. but cause Im on my comp at home I dont know whether it will run ok. It might!
Shadow - good to see you :)
LOMAC is our more popular flightsim, with about half our community being able to play it. DCS is still limited to a smaller group of us - about 3-4 or so - as, well. It's a bitch.
A little ArmA2 co-op would be excellent, and a couple of our guys have been wrestling with the mission editor so if you want to trade findings and advice, by all means go for it. I was impressed with your CTF maps, worked much better and with a better squad layout etc than most public-created missions.
Nice to meet you Shadow.
Looking forward to joining you in the field :)

No problem Masaq, i've been editing since OFP back in the day and have picked up a few bits and bobs over the years. If you guys have any budding mission makers looking for help just gimme a shout on here or MSN. I'll be all to happy to share anything i can.
Seen as i have the day off today, i'm going to get stuck into some kind of joint Force Recon / Guerrilla mission. Just got to come up with enough objectives to keep us busy for a while.

Me  I'm building a love/hate relationship with Arma mission editing! I get all keen only to get stuck for hours on the simplest thing... i then leave it until have the strength to try again. By which time I've forgotten how bloody frustrating it can be!
The combination of the lack of official guide/how2 & the complexity of the scripting/editor is mind boggling.

Yeah i know that feeling m8, i would suggest looking at the editor in two respects. One being the default editor, i.e using built in features such as triggers/waypoints/syncronizing etc.
The second is where scripting comes in... Scripts can add some great things to missions but also gives the most headaches :) If you haven't had any previous experience with the mission editor i would keep things simple for now. You can still create some great missions with no scripting at all.
I would recommend the following guide, it will give you a good start into using the editor (Although it was made for ArmA, pretty much everything will still apply).

Also a very good site for references and a great set of forums can be found at OFPEC. I've been using the forums for years, they are a great bunch who will help with anything.

See how you get on with those m8, anything else you need let me know...
if i get ArmA 2 after I tried the deom i be sure to drop in on your server (Y)
Ummm .. according to our records you're English, yet I have no idea what that meant. At all.

Oh no; it would appear that the grammar and spelling police are working in great strength today! :p

Good games tonight chaps, just thought i'd nip on and post a link for that NVG mod, incase you haven't found it.
http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=6130
Definitely makes fighting at night alot more bearable.
Thanks, this mod is a definitive "must-have".
Playing with NVG's going from irritating bright to almost total darkness is way too painful.
Hence, my short time on the server this time. Have installed it now and will try again later.
Cheers Shadow. That addon is a definite must-have!

Brotherhood Of Britain
Est. 2001 :p:p:p
P.S. While i'm here you guys might want to check out a newer NVG mod... I have switched over to it, probably worth a look.

2001. Wow. We've been going since 2002 (re-branded in 2007 for marketing purposes :p).
A clan/community lasting that long is a testament to good leadership, and great members.
Will try that NVG mod.
Hoorah! to that, Clans/communities are hard things to keep going lol. Iv been a member of about 5 in the last 8 years. Hate not being one!

How did you last this long then!?!
:p
My clan's been going since 2003, I've been in it for 2 years now :D
And I need to get ArmA 2 (and a new PC to run it) so I can join you all :(
