View Full Version : Tactics, Techniques and Proceedures II (TTP2)
New guide from dslyecxi

Well worth a read :)
I've been looking at the bits about fireteam/squad layouts, and I'd love to see some more tactical-type play from us in ArmA; actually buddying up into pairs and using two pairs as fireteams etc.
On a side note it's definitely something for our mission-makers to be considering in the future - basically if you've got 8 players in-game, you've got enough for two fireteams - each comprised of a fireteam leader, an automatic rifleman, an assistant for the AR and a rifleman (who can be equipped with a light-AT also).
That's not a lot of assets to be using; so if we're playing missions with those kind of numbers we don't really wanna be going up against multiple T-72s, BRDMs, Ka-52s and such!

That does sound pretty good Mas, would love to see *the game first* tacticool fireteams and stuff. Would be pant warmingly good if we had the numbers for platoon sized stuff :D
Maybe using side chat as team leader chat & then group chat for talk within the fireteams? Then maybe using direct chat? (can't remember what Dyslexci had it down for in the guide, I'll have to check!)
EDIT: Found one bit: "Shouting "Grenade!" over Direct Speaking is one example of how it can be used effectively." Would mean team1 would know theres a grenade heading their way, without team2, who could be in a totally different place, having to change underwear for no reason!

Read the Arma one though about 2 or 3 times and its a really good read if you want to squadlead or even just be a better squad member.

It would be good to see that kind of thing happening, makes the fireteams much more powerful to have buddy systems.
Its not really do-able by the map maker however as the players normally just grab whatever weapon they want and go with that. Classic one is normally finding out that nobody brought an AT rocket.
Ah yeah Vil, I don't mean that map makers are responsible for who's carrying what - I mean that maps/missions should be created where the players are up against a realistic level of opposition - for example, holding a checkpoint on the edge of a town against a recon element of a hostile force or being that recon element against a hostile checkpoint; rather that fighting over the entire map.

Sounds like someone who's got dyslexia trying to spell dyslexia, but failing lol
For the record IM dyslexic myself so no body go get all offended
Thanks for the read mate, looks like some real nice new stuff to do. All in all pretty Cool
Great Guide, the hard bits remembering it all :)
Put it into practice and you will then develop your own little techniques. We use the this technique whilst training to be a Paramedic. Learn, practice then apply out on the road!
i look forward to trying these tactics out with you medic :)

And as we learnt when training to be nurses; most learning theories pretty much state that without practice it's impossible to learn a new practical skill :D
:idiot:LoL yeah, thats why we spend 50 % of our Uni time in the back on an Ambu!:idiot:

Tactics...? What are tactics?
All I do is keep my head down, hope I get lucky with my next shot and listen out for shouts directed at me. :)
Oh.. And follow Epoch about being his "nurse".
EDIT: Of course, I don't help my situation any by carrying around a shotgun and having sporadic Rambo moments.

You love it!
Hah, sooooo glad that it's not me who has to be his "nurse". Bad enough dealing with crazy folk at work :p
Epoch dressed as a Nurse makes me warm and fuzzy inside and presents me with feelings which are new and confusing x
