Ok, for those who don't know about this game... here's a thread on this much anticipated WW1 flight sim, called Rise of Flight (ROF), formally known as Knights of the Sky.

Woudln't flying planes like that be a bit...well...boring?
They just aren't really capable of doing much at all?
I see it as the opposite... be a blast to fly as they are so basic.
No radar, missiles, HUD etc etc will hopefully make it a highly exhilarating game. Everything will come down to the pilot.
They are very capable to shooting each other down and dropping bombs... not much more needed from them really.
It'll defiantly not appeal to everyone, but I'd choose it over Arma2, if i could only have one of them.
It looks unique to me. The minimum specs are really high and they seem to have put a lot of effort into the environment/engine, having such basic planes in it, is the icing on the cake for me. (i'd love it if it was WW2, but WW1 is the next best, more fun than modern jets i reckon)
I wasn't sure when I first saw this, but thinking about it this could be fun. To me it'll depend on how diverse the multiplayer aspect is. Is there any more info kicking about concerning the missions available?

True that Tommy, sadly I'm no flyboy modern or past so I'll pass on this one.
If they where to release a WW2 one I could well be tempted however :salute:
I think it'll be a breath of fresh air ... literally!
I doubt very much those 'knights of the sky' nearly 100 years ago considered their job 'boring' !

As squaddie mentioned before... my desk fan will be taking pride of place beside my track IR for full emmersion. :D
I'll get my.....

Sounds like there will be less of a learning curve considering the planes are so basic.

From what I've read they are going for realism, including things like fuel mix & proper temperature model.
REMEMBER:
Always treat your kite like you treat your woman.
Get inside her five times a day and take her up to heaven and back - WOOF WOOF!
^^ shit if i treat my kite like my woman, i'll never learn all the keys.
What, you just use TrackIR and her joystick to interface with her?
Amigo, I think you may be married to a man :p
TrackIR doesn't seem to generate a response...well not the response i'm looking for. I don't think pointing combined with hysterical laughter whilst sniggering 'omg you fucking nerd', counts as a sexual experience, well not for me anyway.

also, trade the old kite in for a new one when she gets frayed around the edges!!!
Looks good this, not that I will have time to play but memories of CFS3 in spitfires come flooding back - good times!
It would have to be VERY good to avoid becoming old real quick though methinks

Heres a little history channel series about your new hobby:

all parts seem to be on there.
Tally ho, old chum...and all that what what...
Anyone wanting to play RoF1917 will need to learn the following off by heart ;)

I like this quote
"Early in the war, when a sense of chivalry still held sway, some men allowed their opponents to depart if they were out of ammunition or had jammed guns."
Chocks away Ginger old chap, lets show the hun what we're made of.
When's it out?
4 day's time, in NA at least. Not sure about EU/UK release dates, not been able to find one.
Who wants to buy Masqi a little birthday treat? :p
The more I think/read/watch about this game, the more I'm starting to crave playing it and also get terrified at how damn hard it's going to be. I've never been one for thinking out good dogfighting strategies in close-up arial combat - I'm more for firing off a bunch of AMRAAMs and zoom/boom fights rather than close up twisty-turny gunfights... this thing is going to tax me.
...actually we should so start doing birthday treats! Any member with at least six months' unbroken subs-payment history; when their birthday comes around we club together and buy them a game of their choice lol. I bet people would stop forgetting due-dates then!
Dog fighting in piston aircraft is so much more fun than letting rip with a load of missiles. The skill involved is stupidly hard but alot of fun.
I prefer ww1 and ww2 combat sims to modern day, the joys of strafing an armoured train on CFS3 is mint.
Wonder if we can wave at each other in this?
Yeah, I have to confess that at times I'm just lazy... that's why I'm going to start memorizing those rules; I figure if I'm at least starting off on the basis that I'll fly following those creeds, I can't go as badly wrong as when I used to fly WW2 stuff online on "Warbirds" (which was great fun, tbh. Persistent online world, filled with bombers, fighters, ships, tanks, AAA...)
I just used to take off, fly around until I saw someone then fly straight at 'em. Then when I rapidly became outgunned, I'd try and zoom away... inevitably getting smacked about in the process.
I've always been a more natural interceptor in WW2 sims - zooming down on a flight of B-17s in a Fw-190 and unloading cannons into them from 50ft then screaming past before the P-51 escorts can get me, that's what I'm good at lol.
I may be raaaaather keen on killing observation balloons in Rise of Flight ;)
There's just something about the wind whistling past you as you try and flip your bird around to come out the sun with lewis guns blazing and seeing holes appear in your wings as his wing man comes at you from below.

try and flip your bird around to come out the sun
I normally have no trouble flipping my bird round .......... ;)
I normally have no trouble flipping my bird round .......... ;)
Bet she doesn't come out of the son, though.
(Euugh, creepy incest jokes)
This one really does look good but I hope there is more to the mp part of the game than just the flying around in circles trying to get the guy in front of you while the guy in your back is doing the same with you.
Besides is TrackIR supported with this piece of software ? Because I did just order TrackIR 5 yesterday. :)
Official release/shipping date is June 17th.
I think this is the international release date...
Isn't ArmA2 and AA3 released on that date as well? :p
No, but the iPhone OS 3.0 is out on that day! w000000t :D
Meh, ArmA2 is my game for this month - RoF will have to wait until I've received my june payslip on the 28th lol.
ArmA II release date is the 19th June.
No idea regarding the rest.
Aerosoft to release Rise Of Flight in Europe "news post from :Sunday, 28.06.2009"
We are very proud that Aerosoft will be the European distributor of Rise Of Flight. Of course Aerosoft will fully support the pilots of this new product, with additional help files, tournaments (will you be our first Ace?) and new missions. :pilotfly:
(i know there is some bad press... requiring the internet to play for example.. but considering i only play multiplayer games that doesn't both me.. and also having to buy future planes etc doesn't bother me either... as i doubt i have the need or desire to, it just looks like a really fun and realistic/difficult game.. right up my street.)
Who else will be joining me? :D
Purchase pending awaiting review
^^.. 50mins left for download... i'm playing footy tonight but i'm sure i'll get an hour or so in at some point.. will let you know.
I reckon it'll be a little like BlackShark initially... fucking difficult
£30 .. what the hell - I'll buy it if only to keep you company ..
Well let us know how it is.. could always be tempted if its the dogs danglies

Empty slots seem to get taken by bots.. all good fun.
Twice i've got into a dogfight.. both times i've died without scoring a kill.. practice is definatly needed.. this game is a true sim :)
Giving it a whirl - huge download is inbound, probably won't be able to play it tonight tbh.
My gallery (http://www.tacteam.org/forums/album.php?albumid=26)
I'm so not a man of my word.. i'm tempted already to buy the other planes now :D
3 or 4 of them at $7 each
Yeah I'm considering getting the Se5a, although tbh I vastly prefer the German birds at the minute!
I'l buy them when I get online tonight.
Aww thanks mate.. really kind of you. :p
Keen to hear what the other birds are like - keep us posted :)
Just bought it, looking forward to playing a bit online.
£30 game. and 4 planes.
£4:50 per new plane
Sorry but it's a rip off.
Can't agree with you on that.
It's immense fun.
However, this isn't the thread for that.
Paying extra for more planes when the game has a poxy 4 is a rip off, regardless of whether it's immense fun or not.
Don't get me wrong, it looks fantastic, but if it had say a dozen planes to begin with then you pay for extras then fine. But 4!
Moved posts into more appropriate thread :p
30 quid = a decent meal out.
4.50 = pint & half in the pub.
If you buy all planes its under 45 quid.. the same as a top priced console game, however there is no need to buy them all. I don't see it as a rip off.
Also you say a poxy 4.. but its not about numbers...DCS BlackShark has 1 chopper for 35 quid.. and its a great game. Having a dozen planes wouldn't necessarily make it better.. quality over quantity any and every time for me.
@Mad Tommy +1
it´s a great game ! ...i already bought all new planes just to support the devs :-)
