Hiding in the grass on Mao Valley. A fleet of Littlebirds avoiding flak on the approach to Muttrah. Parachuting into the Airport. Protecting the SUV on Al Basrah!
Aah the good times of PR 0.5!
I've set up a Project Reality 0.5 server, if anyone's interesting in reliving some moments from the past. Or, if you never experienced 0.5, take a look and see how the mod has developed over the past few years.
You can download the PR 0.5 client here (http://battlefield2.filefront.com/file/Project_Reality_Client;75773).
WARNING: Before you install, make sure you RENAME your existing PR folder (usually found in Program Files\EA Games\Battlefield 2\mods) from 'pr' to something else (e.g. pr08). Only then should you install PR 0.5. Make sure you let it create a shortcut too, and if you already have a shortcut to 0.8 on your desktop, rename it to avoid problems.
When you're done playing 0.5, simply rename the 'pr' folder to something like 'pr05' and rename your pr08 folder back to 'pr'.
Then, whenever you wish to go retro, rename the folders again.
Simple!

nice! haha cool man. This might be something you can broadcast as a special event :) More people might be interested. Just like IGI's infantry rounds.
Will try this out sometime later this week.
I loved Extract, I'm glad that it will eventually make a come back. I think that now teamwork has been well established in most servers, we could have some cracking games! May dl this again, maybe we should organise a night for it or something.

I want to ensure the server is ok first before publicising an event.
The weekend won't be possible, since we'll be hosting the open play of Helmand Province, plus the Sangin open beta.
Download 0.5 asap and we can all take a looksie :D

hmmm just checked the maplist... arrr good memories in there.
I think we should organise and advertise a weekend for this... Be a blast.. with selection of the best maps. (understood we need to test it 1st.. that'll be fun on Street and Moa valley, T&T mash up)
This is my must list...
Al Basrah.. both versions.. Xtract & Regular (will be played a lot :D)
Moa Valley.. jungle nirvana
Muttrah City... more fun than the present
Steel Thunder... classic
Street.. (epoch you have the extract one, but i remember it being impossible, but fun, maybe the AAS one would be better?)
Greasy Mullet... great mixed assets map (the days when they gave us all in one map... Jets, A-10/Frog, various choppers, tanks, quads pickup .50 sniper bazookas, and on and on...etc etc etc...)
I'm gonna pop on at some point and check some of the other ones my memory is fuzzy on... but the ones above are a must :D
Muttrah v1 was epic. One of my favourites. I also really liked Airport. Goods Station was good too, for CQB.
word of caution...
I just had a few issues..
I couldn't connect to the account server under 0.5, i tried using my main account, so i went back to 0.85 to test. My main account seem to have got corrupted, when i log on 0.8 locks up. My other accounts are fine. I have a back up so its no issue.
When i went back to 0.5 i was able to contact the account server. i made a new account for 0.5
It may not be a bad thing to do.

We've got to have the original Helmand on the map list. Playing Street as the MEC Mercinary... Fun times ahead :)

yeah i cant think of any reason for it.. never had such problems doing the same thing with other builds. Just thought i'd mention it.
i remember the 0.5 days Insurgents having tanks on al basrah and usa having loads of armour and 2 A10s plus cobras lol ASSET HEAVEN :)
Airport was the first PR map I played I think, god knows what version it was

I still have fond memories of 0.5 extraction Al Basrah. Nothing in PR so far has topped the great games I had on that map.
Nice! First version for me was 0.2 but 0.5>0.6 was best.
I hope this'll get attention 'cause it's a shame that every good version disappear everytime a new is created.
Download is finished in an hour and a half, so I'll watch some good movie now, go to bed and hopefully some of you will be playing this tommorow :)

What's the plan for this server, community events?
i want to play 0.5 but i need a faster mirror than filefront <:^|
Seems there was no interest in it. But sure - organised events would be good.

I can upload the file to my Filefront account if that'd help people. Since there's a community match this Saturday, is it okay I put a thread up for a 0.5 community match after the current event, on the PR forums?

i know iam not T&T but the sound of 'Event' or a proper organised battle with T&T members and regular T&T server players (myself :D ) could be really intresting.
I think a retro night will only work when the present version of PR has got a bit stale.. i.e has been out for a longish time.
One thing that might help is to go for an earlier version.. 0.32 would be my choice.
Main reason being.. its a damn small download.. only a few hundred MB rather than gigs. As it appears the size of the download puts a lot of folks off the idea.
edit: actually it's 700odd MB.. so not that small..but smaller :p

LMAO, thats brilliant, I only vaguely rember PR back in the old days. Only played it a couple of times (my loss). Perhaps now would be the appropriate time to live the PR 0.85
