View Full Version : Multiple Monitors
Useful guide (http://vaaf.net/wiki2/index.php5?title=Black_Shark_MultiMonitors) to setting up multiple monitors in Black Shark.
The main thing to bear in mind when setting up multiple monitors is the 'phantom' monitor. That is an imaginary monitor, with the same resolution as you're 2nd monitor, placed on the left of your primary screen.
In my case, I have 2 x 22'' screens, both 1680x1050. My left screen is the cockpit, my right is half Shkval and half ABRIS. The 'phantom' monitor is therefore also 1680x1050, placed to the left of my cockpit display. Therefore my total horizontal res is 5040, with my cockpit starting at 1680, and my 2nd monitor starting at 3360.
Simple isn't it!?
:helo:
Yeah I get it, I think! It also seems a right pain in the arse... is it really worth it?
Screenshot? Oh wait, nvm :P
I think I need to get hold of a copy. (I even have two monitors, though they have different resolutions)
Yes, I think it's worth it. It's really useful seeing the Shkval in better resolution, for identifying targets. Having an easier to read ABRIS isn't bad either - whether for navigation or the multitude of other features it has.
If you have 2 displays (regardless of resolution) then it's worth using them.
I can help if necessary.
I'll get it set up tomorrow then. On a late shift today, and an early tomorrow - I have a 10 hour turnaround to eat, sleep and wash in tonight :(
So I am just about to set my BS up for some flying when I noticed that if I have Win7 I can only use multimonitors so long as I am running the game in windowed mode ?
Is there no workaround besides installing XP ?
Also how big of an impact will this have on my frames if I am running the game windowed ?
I use two monitors with Win7 & DCS.. doesn't seem to really affect my fps. I'm sure it does but not to the extent that i'm bothered about it.
It's a complicated setup that is dependant upon your desires and monitor sizes.
I don't have time right now to write up an full explaination but i could talk you through it on TS or when i have time later i'll write it up.
There are some threads expalining it on the the ED forums and you need an app called Phantom monitor fix..
look here.. pages & pages on it.. http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=32630&page=21
Certainly would like a talk through!
Cheers!
Right, I'm trying to set this up now and it's beating me time and time again. I've double-checked ALL my numbers and they should work, fine... but they don't.
I *think* it's because of two things:
1) I have two screens, one of which is smaller than the other 1280*1024 rather than 1680x1050 of the main monitor
2) The smaller screen is on the left
So what I end up with is a massively zoomed in view of the cockpit spanning both displays. Looks very fancy, utterly useless though.
Sorted it... ended up using one of the existing config files and tweaking it to my own ends; have also got the phantom monitor fixer working ok.
Still doesn't make me any more capable of actually flying the thing tho :D
