View Full Version : Purrrrrrrrchased!
Decided I can afford to buy it, but not a better stick or a TrackIR yet lol. Until then I'm stuck on dual monitors and making do with my Saitek Evo lol.
Tips, suggestions, hints, advice on setting it up etc appreciated!

Dont play it if your stressed :p
And don't play it if I'm stressed.
lol! In that case, it can wait a day or two... had a long rough day at work. Having dinner and a beer or two then will hop on to play PR or maybe some Lock On if anyone's interested, I'd imagine. Wrestling with BS after the day I've had sounds like it might be risky lol.
^ true..
Great game.... but it is a true sim of a Ka-50 meaning its damn hard. Hence why it is sooo goood to.
Maybe a chat on TS would be best in regards to tips etc.
But this FAQ thread is well worth a read... FAQ Thread Link.... (http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=33527)
The manual is really daunting.. and if like me you wont make much sense of it until you flown and killed yourself a few times.
The major tip with flying it is... Be really gentle... if you move your stick like you can on LockOn you will find yourself plummeting to the ground fast.. its very sensitive and requires light touch.
P.s it does have an arcade mode.. but i've not tried it...
until you flown and killed yourself a few times.
Virtually, of course.
I'd be up for some Lockon tonight. I really enjoyed the teamwork in last night's game. Probably the most enjoyable game I've had.

Let's remove tags and get a FAC up...
Mas... watch the 'Producer's Notes'... easily the quickest and easiest way to get a grip of things... high quality vids can be downloaded from the main DSC site, they are also on youtube.. but i'd get the full quality ones...

When using auto startup its difficult to know when you are ready to take off, listen for "Watch Ekran" then check your autopilot stabilizers by your right knee, wait for 3/4 to light before attempting to lift off (obviously you dont want alt hold on tho) - If you try it with no stabilization assist you'll be fighting to hold it level.
Descent mode is handy too. Press and hold 'd' when in a auto hover. It'll descend you at a fixed speed, slow enough to ensure you don't enter a vortex ring and end up a pancake. Really handy for landings.

http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=36246 - Very helpful guide for autopilot modes.
Holy shit, I think I just spent about 90 minutes on some tutorial-mission-and-pdf-guide... can now get the bird in the air, flying... somewhat unsteadily... and with a rather large reference guide, shoot the shit of of tanks that don't fire back using the ATGMs and cannons. Rockets are like trying to piss in a hurricane, the damn things just go everywhere.
Autopilot doesn't *mean* autopilot - it means "slight helping hand pilot", it seems - and generally when I start yawing all over the place it's because for some fucking reason the automatic balancing aids have turned themselves off.
I seem to spend an awful lot of time slightly twisting... it's a real PITA to fly straight, or sideslip without having the bloody thing start turning and leaving me struggling to line up on targets properly.
I do feel more mentally stressed by two hours of playing BlSh than I do by the 8 hours I spent at work today!
Yea their primary use are flight stabilisers, without them its practically impossable, the second link I posted explains in great detail how they and true autopilot modes work.
I bought the game yesterday, still trying to learn how to fly it, I only just had a quick look on the weapon tutorial but I haven't tried anything yet. I want to learn how to take off and fly first. ;)

We have atleast 3 Black Shark regulars here, myself included - If you have any specific questions let us know.

I got one right away. How do I move the camera for the tv screen? I know how to activate it and get my cannon ready but I don't know how to move it.
That's the Shkval. If you go into your control options I think it's listed under either Collective or Cyclic controls. I think it's controlled using , . / ; (possibly with Ctrl or Shift - can't remember). You'll need to map it to your joystick hat for sure.
You also need to know the buttons for zoom in/out on the Shkval, as well as making the targetting cage bigger and smaller. You'll quickly run out of buttons!!
You'll quickly run out of buttons!!
I had a felling that would happened :P
Put it this way - I've got an X52 Pro and I haven't enough buttons :p
Then I'm really going to have some problems. ;)
Well on the top of my "have to buy" list is TrackIR, but I need to make sure I really get into this game before I start buying stuff I can't afford ;) I work at 2 jobs when I'm not in school but I still don't make a lot of money...
Well back on-topic. I'm starting to learn how to fly the beast, it takes some time to get used to always using the trim after every movement.
Yeah - for sure map a button to trim - it's used constantly.
Also, to ensure stability, have a look at the four blue buttons by your right thigh. Ensure all are on except Altitude hold when in normal flight.
The learning curve for BS is steep, but it is fun and rewarding once you've mastered the basics. I still get incredibly stressed by it at times - and can still be found careering into the ground tail first - but it's good fun, especially in multiplayer when you're sharing targets etc.
I'm just trying to be patient and just except the fact that I won't master this game over a night. ;) I was playing a bit more last night and I have got to the point were I can get it into a hover and fly around with out any real problems. I'm still having problems landing. :P I will try to learn how to use the weapon systems tonight.
For what it's worth - I can't land either. It's not usually necessary - I'm normally blown to shit anyway.
Take off - fly to combat zone - shoot some stuff - explode - rinse and repeat.
I will be home in about an hour, maybe we could have a quick coop game or something?
I'm at work. I should be on from about 8pm tonight.
Order placed. Can't wait to see this whole thing in action with my TrackIR.
Only thing I am missing now is a proper Joystick. Currently using some stick for about 20 quid. So can anybody point me towards a nice and useful site with reviews or tell me right away which one y'all using ?
X52-pro for me
Pro or standard ?
Wer lesen kann ist klar im Vorteil.
That said delete. :)
And how you like it ?
Anything to complain about it perhaps ? Anything I should know ?
The learning curve resembles a flag pole.
Actually I'd liken it to more like the North Face of the Eiger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eiger)... a sheer cliff, icey, damn difficult to get up and for a few months a while ago had a few bodies hanging off of it, dangling in the breeze. :p
Well thats more of an motivation than a downer to me to be honest.
Now you playing Black Shark on a regular basis ?
And besides that any other flysims ?
Learning curve opposite to the world economy?
I guess it's kinda like EVE's on this picture?

Are we talking about the game or the joystick here?

Oh well since you ask like that both but the joystick in particular.

YES! Knew I'd seen a relevant pic somewhere! :p

Joystick is first rate but expensive (worth it in my opinion tho) I've configured mine to use the modifier key to double up the actions available on all the keys but if used properly you can also use the 3 different modes to effectivly triple the functions, I myself think this is un-needed as I've already got everything I need mapped.
I'd say the x52 is well matched for DCS:BS - Before I got it I was using a cheap Saitek Cyborg and had to rely on the keyboard alot, now I hardly use it while flying.
The only negative point I can find is the zoom slider is a bit 'low precision' and sometimes results in my view jumping between 2 zoom 'points'
As for the game, yes it has a steep curve but this is not overcomeable - Unfortunatly if you want ultra-realism then its going to take some learning. When you get the feel for your bird and get to the stage you can throw it around at low alt, weaving in and out of buildings then it starts getting enjoyable - until then its frustrating.
Well the stick is as good as bought.
Thanks for the input; thats what I needed.
I am actually stepping on unknown territory with this game and its genre but thats more due to I have given the idea of a flysim never a good thought.
I think I am ready for it. ;)
