.. a thread about what we want in Arma missions & how to do it.
I'm looking for ideas and feedback about what T&T wants from Arma missions.
I'm not feeling very creative.. and i need some ideas. Do we want squad based action with no friendly AI, larger battles where we have an individual squad with AI support, Sneaky night special forces missions, a tank battle, etc etc etc...
If anyone has seen any scripts that a mission can be based around, please post em...
Something where we can play against each other would be good. Maybe a covert night mission. Foresty for cover, bad weather perhaps. No toys. Might be a laugh.

What maybe 8 Vs 8. Save it for when we have a decent turnout. Hmmm what game mode?...........One side protects an asset....Death match/Last man standing.....fight to control a hamlet...
I don't like deathmatch type games. Some type of objective would be useful.
4 v 4 would be good. Like Epoch says, night, weather conditions etc. One group would attack the other defend or just a good old fashion seek and destroy with no toys, ie tanks, planes, etc maybe quads?
In RGG we had a really good ambush mission, one team drives a convoy, the other ambushes, I think it got lost though.
I think a mission where one side is on sentry duty around some sort of smallish asset/building - the other side has to attack and capture it - maybe at night etc would be fun I think
^^ as long as there are no sniper rifles.. otherwise i aint guarding shit :)

Current missions under construction from me are....
Operation Kinetic:Big mission with the aim being to take the 'obregan line'. The obregan line is a massive SLA defence line that stretches the width of the country just east of corazel. We will have to achieve a number of objectives on and behind this line and we will have a number of assets available to us in order to make this happen. Be it para drops or going straight up the middle with tanks (or both). May use a couple of addons for funzies e.g. that AC130 model that is floating about. Big problem I face with this one is that I need to get multiple spawn points set as we don't want to have to spawn at the airbase in order to drive tanks to the front line some 2-3km away and I‘ve no idea how to do that. (about 30-40% done, line has been made along with some defenders however not all of them have been put in. Nor are there any objectives in place at the moment either)

Operation Ocean Dagger:A few paratroopers will land and take out enemy positions covering a beach somewhere (not decided if i like the one its on at the moment). If these paras get themselves killed they will respawn with everyone else so they have no second chance for there part of the op. The landing will either have to go up against fully alert defence and a few dead paras, a semi alert defence and no paras or a destroyed defence with some victorious paras standing in the middle of them. Then will have to advance on a nearby town and wipe out the enemies inside it. (about 10-15% done)
Operation Mountain HopSmall mission (alot like vanguard in size really) small unit has to clear some mountains of enemy outposts and knock out some enemy artillery positions as well. (this one is at about 75% done, needs a little bit more testing and to update the positions of a most of the units).
Forward Base CondorA small outpost in afghan village, must prevent the Taliban from taking the FOB and also destroy the weapon cache that they are getting their weapons from. This Mission will either be no respawns or a very long respawn timer (4-5mins). This is because I think we are not really taking death all that seriously in our games at the moment and we should try a mission where our medics really do save our lives. Add a bit of panic to the whole being shot feeling, rather than just "bollocks now I have to get an atv back over".
Really want to try and get a fire support script working for this one so say that half the team die we get a couple of airstrikes to drop on the Taliban to stop them getting to the base. Nothing like a danger close jdam to liven the evening eh?
(this one is at about 50% done, also got to try and get an air strike script tommy posted in another thread working before I consider this mission done.)

This mission exists in the standard arma missions, one person is a sniper and has to take out a small group of SLA players while they hunt him.
What about mobile spawns? That way we would have to make sure they're in cover?

Robs a bit from the idea really, just drive it right up the objective and throw yourself at it russian style until you kill all the bad guys. Bit dull imo :(.
True. In that case keep the main spawn as the only spawn, with multiple spawns it will also rob of the reality. Make us work for the objective and take our time.

Current idea stands at one spawn on the airbase one at a FOB in corazel for stuff like tanks, lorrys etc. Just doesn't sit with me that all the hardware would be stored on an airbase when the main line is about 3-4km away.

Although not exactly an addon we can use now since its WIP & we dont seem to use mercinaries much ! :eek:
I saw a new mando script which makes AI drivers follow waypoints better, worth a look ? Its on the Armaholic homepage (http://www.armaholic.com/), entitled "Mando Move"
Something that'll help in any way ?

That isn't an addon that video is showing, all it is showing is that groups mission template that they are using for that map. I.e. pre made bases and civis wandering around.
Wouldn't mind some of the Brit forces addons used, could be nice, insertion by Lynx would be awesome.

Yeah but the Brit forces kits are shite aren't they?
They're OFP imports, so they don't look amazing, but they're functional. The L85s have a low poly count, but they still kill :p

One of my missions is done (mountain hop, renamed to Operation Falcon Summit) I've given us a limited number of weapons so no more squads of complete l33t and also no more respawns either.
I'd like to get a play though in at some point to see if we are capable of doing a mission like that or if we require our l33tness to succeed. Likely to be a problem with it being either to hard or to easy however depending on whether I have overestimated us or underestimated us, so I'd like to get it played to see how it goes. So yeah, anyone up for a game later today?
