View Full Version : Warm-up
Black Shark has been out in Russian for a few weeks now.. the Western version is due out soon, its been delayed but is expected in Jan or Feb next year.. looks impressive and damn daunting.
It sounds very challenging in realistic mode.. a proper helicopter sim. :joystick:
Here is a link to the English manuals.

you guys have way to much time on your hands .... give me till jan will be there with you
I always knew this game was gonna be hard, but I am looking forward to flying with you guys and raping down American tanks.
I nearly bought the Russian version last night.. feeling a little impatient.. and for only $24 damn good value. :joystick:

Do it. Russian is simply English but reflected in a mirror. Get a mirror and you can read it!
I'm tying the Russian version... it is epically hard!
It's gonna take some serious study time to get to grips with this bad boy! TrackIR is almost essential.
I've just printed 80 odd pages of technical stuff just so i can understand wtf the buttons in the cockpit do, the entire manual is over 360 pages, stuffed with info
I tried having a quick mess around.. total failure.. i might be able to takeoff by Sunday night :D
There is an arcade game mode.. but that doesn't really interest me.. there are approx. 450 keyboard commands! :tom: :joystick:
It fucking awesome.. i believe that is the right word for it!
Would it not be quicker to apply for Russian citizenship and join the Russian Air Force? :p
Quite likely.. i really can't emphasize how hard this game is.. its insane! 2 hours and i still understand NOTHING!
I think i'll need a month off work to get to grips with it...oh yeah and TrackIR and a new stick!

I donīt buy many games, I have 1 0r 2 of a couple of genres, but this is a must must buy.:D
Even you will have problems keeping this thing in the air Alex.

What's the story with the 2 monitors MT? I have a spare CRT one and a spare small LCD. What does one need to get them werkin' N-SYNC? (if that's what's going on there)
I have them just in dual view mode, no extra gizmos etc..and here i have BlackShark running in windowed mode and streched and displaying the cockpit TV screens on my 2nd screen, BlackShark supports this. (even if they meant it via triple head type setups, http://www.matrox.com/graphics/en/products/gxm/ , but here it is just done with dual view).
There are a number of reasons why i didn't strech and use my 2nd monitor completly.. i'll explain them when you get BlackShark!
Can't walk.... legs failing..... wallet empty....... drops to floor..... slomo action sequence commences..... bullet time fading...... dribble dribble.......
Even you will have problems keeping this thing in the air Alex.
Easy, place Gam0r Disc in centre of floor atop a small mound of Table Salt, take 12 steps back, run and punt through Open Window

Epoch.. its not Vista.. just tried this with my English Vista version.. works fine.
:confused::confused:
Arse
Will do a complete uninstall of the commie version and try it again with the British Empire version.
I'll be online from 7ish.
I'm really interested in your feedback on this one guys. If you still give it the thumbs up after a week or so then i'll be popping out to the shops. I was going to wait till Storm comes out before finally taking the plunge and getting an X52, but if this is really as good as you say then Santa better be listening.
You won't be able to get BlackShark in the shops until next year. It's download only til then.
Tommy and I have been playing the Ruskie version for a week and I think we both agree it's bloody good. Now we have the English version, it'll be even better, since we'll have English tutorials and cockpit labels!
To a novice it will be frustrating at first, so perseverance is key, but it'll be rewarding.
A decent stick (e.g. X52) is a must - you need lots of commands close at hand. A trackIR makes a hell of a difference too.
Thanks for the details Epoch....i've been looking at th track-IR as well. If you could post again when you've put some more time behind the bell then that should help swing it. It certainly looks good in the vids, and a lot of people are loving the "feel" of the flight dynamics......but what's the "immersion" like ?
I'm gonna play a bit over the weekend since my beloved is away visiting family :D
The game is quite immersive. You're surrounded by touchy feely clicky switches - left, right, in front, behind each folder - they're everywhere! And they all have a function!!
My struggle at the moment is keeping the thing in the air. The chopper is as unstable as my ex, and needs trimming constantly. Plus, too much power, too rapid a descent or whatever and you'll blow a gasket - literally. Several times last night I failed to rendevous with flyboy-Tommy because (a) he's soft and gentle and flies like tinkerbell and (b) I'm a hard Geordie and I gave it too much powaaa!!
It's brill!
Ok, taking into account as much as i want this game, i cannot justify the costs involved in Track IR, X52 (with or without pedals) and a new g-card
So i won't be on any time this decade
Gunny, I'm gonna have a go with me mouse, keyboard, joystick and nowt else, i'll let you know how i get on
Cheers EXO... a full debrief is required!
Inflight video of a quick flight, warm up to death :) (http://madtommy.blip.tv/?user=madtommy#1591820)
Its large.. you may need to pause it and let it get ahead of itself other wise it will pause.

Ooooh was just about to ask if there was any chance of a video !
Letting it buffer as I type, will show my thoughts on the game (not Tommys superb video skills !) after !
Sarge.
There is basically no editing... just a straight flight. You'll have to excuse some at least one dodgy sound edit i missed.
Hope you can guess the TV theme tune in one section! :D
heathen
that + knight rider + a-team ftw
Tommy - any chance you could start up a server with that mission? I can't find it in my temp files.

Oooooh that looks superb !
Cant wair for the boxed version ... :D
Sarge.
Nice vid Tommy. except the fecking airwolf music
Spent the last half hour trying and getting limited progress.
^^ trying what?
The dual monitor?... it is a bit fiddly.. if post your setup i might be able to fix any issues.. i spent ages figuring it out initially.
Trying to fly in circles :p
I can fly in circles, though technically it's called a 'spin' and usually ends up as a 'fireball'.
Sometimes I get annoyed with the silly russian chopper and pull on the stick to hard and snap the rotors :(
Tommy - what's the process to get it set up with DualView?
