View Full Version : ArmA disk wont Auto Run
Hey folks could someone help me through getting ArmA to install. For those who dont know this is the second disk I have had to order as the first one wouldnt run. Thankfully I now know that this isnt unusual and can be easily sorted out. I just need your help to sort it out.
The disk only seems to make a clicking noise, but there is no output from it. Thanks guys.

It does sound to me that you've got a problematic drive, not wishing to be too specific here and risk upsetting admins but is it feasable for you to download an .ISO image of the disk from somewhere (http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q=thepiratebay&meta=) then mount it in daemon tools?
or map a network drive from another PC and install it that way
Failing that put this disk in another PC and create an ISO of it then copy it to a memory stick and install - this method is a bit difficult as you'll need a memory stick with a capacity greater than the DVD contents but it's probably single layer and as such less than 5Gb .... Remember tho that most memory sticks need to be reformatted from FAT32 to NTFS to recognise files greater than 1Gb
If above options are not possable buy a new drive, Play.com do Pioneer DVR-116's for around £16 inc delivery.
Can you see the contents of the DVD.. in Windows Explorer..
I dont know how many times i need to tell you not to bother with auto run and just run the setup.exe !
download an ISO - its legal as you have an original of the game.
download an ISO - its legal as you have an original of the game.
Technically legal but in reality most methods of obtaining game .ISO's require you to also upload the data you've downloaded, as you have no way of restricting transfers to people who also have purchased the game, you'd be breaking the law.
isnt there a CD key/serial number anyway?

Yes, but since he has a legal copy of the game he can enter a legal serial number ... :)
As Tommy says, use newsgroups. Great site :)

Hey guys just got back from work its like 5.18 in the morning. Ok very confused will take another look tomorow when my head has had some rest. Thanks for the input. Im not Computer minded and have never been one for the in depth stuff. As I say ill get back to you with naything else I feel is appropriate. Thanks
Medic
exactly my point, he has a legal cd key, so can download another version and ISO it. Legally you are permitted to make a back up if you own an original - arguably this is his backup copy.
Ok so how can I go about doing that guys? thanks
Can you anwser this pls!
Can you see the contents of the DVD.. in Windows Explorer..
If you can.. double click on the setup.exe to install the game.
No mate the disk doesnt show up.
Q1. Can you see the contents of all your other disks in that drive? i.e Are you only having trouble with this one disk?
Q2. So this is the 2nd Arma disk you have had that you cant access? (and i dont mean autorun, i mean browse with windows explorer) But all others disks can be browsed, with no problem.
Q1. Just this one disk
Q2. No i cannot make any access to it, i cant browse
why dont you just go the ISO route?
ISO route? sry Im pretty illiterate with computers.
An .ISO is an image file of the original that you can burn to disk or mount on a virtual drive, although from your statement about computer literacy I'd suggest you forget this idea and try and get a replacement drive for your PC, they are pretty cheap. There is a small possability that something else (IE your OS) is causing this so dont blame me if it doesnt work.
I am also computer illiterate (see my other posts on getting mods to work on Arma !) and I have done this.
just google armed assault .iso and torrent download the file
Then you need a program to mount the .iso file on ie the daemon tools program.
All it does (from my perspective) is trick the computer into thinking you have the CD in your disc drive) - I had to do this as my BF2 disc got a crack in it and I couldnt play PR without it.
I imagine, once its mounted you install as normal and enter your CD key at the appropriate place.
I await someone (probably everyone) who is more computer literate to pick holes in the above !
No holes there Mr Wardle, you are indeed wise and learned...
Medic - this is going on a bit, for such a simple problem, and you've been offered at least 2 solutions on more than one occasion.
To recap:
Simplest - go get a new drive. They cost peanuts, and a monkey can install them. If it doesn't work, you've got a spare drive.
Less simple - download a .iso image of the ArmA disk. Alternatively, I'm sure a fellow [T&T] member can create one and post it to you. Then use Daemon Tools (google it) to 'mount' the iso file. It will then appear as a 'virtual' drive and can be used as normal. Easy.So please, take our advice and get this sorted. You don't need to be a computer expert - neither solution is difficult.
OK thanks guys for all your help, once i get my internet working properly ill give it ago, for reason all my rpoblems come at once.
Hey guys just to re-kindle the old post here. I just need to know where I can get an ISO from? Thanks
