View Full Version : Recover data from 'Unformatted' disk ?
I have a back up 80GB disk.. that had approx 75GB of data on it.
It was an external drive that i had not used for several months, it has all sorts of old work data etc.. stuff that i really didn't want to loose... but is also not present or vital stuff... real archive data. Maybe useful one day.. or it may not.
Windows is reporting it as unformatted, i assume the Master File Table or similar has got corrupted.
Anyone know of a way to recover this? Possible software that might do it?

go to ur local computer shop tommy. it happend to me just 3-4 weeks ago, went down to local shop and asked if they could recover it. 2days later and about 80 quid i got most of documents and files on a dvd disc:)
It that case, can you ask your shop what software they used to recover the data/file table please.

my disc was an internal one, and he had this neat docking station that u could buy for 150 quid or something like that, that magically fixed everything:) But my guess is that since they can recover internal, it shouldnt be a problem recovering external to. ill call them tomorrow and ask him if its a separate software program.
In the meantime mate, leave the drive disconnected and unused. The more it's accessed there higher the liklihood of data being overwritten or removed by accident.

yea, thats a good advise. it also says so on the link i posted there
internal/external.. its all the same. That software is not really what i need. I think i'll use a windows disk to try and recover the master boot record.
Thanks anyway.
