Dumb monitor question

how will having my HDTV plugged into my graphics card affect my performance? e.g. if a film is on the TV and im working on the PC ORrrrr if I wanna play a game on the TV, will the monitor suck load from my GFX card?

tis one of those "does the fridge light stay on when the door's closed?" questions

I think its a yes and no answer.

The resoluton that you ask your gfx to output at makes a big difference. I've never used a TV as an monitor before, well not a HD and not for many a year... what resolution were you planning to use?.. as i believe that is the only issue. Don't think, apart from that, it matters whether it a TV, CRT, or TFT etc..

i use a 32" as well as my monitor both running at 1680 x 1050

for me running a movie whilst in game is fine Cain be aware that you cant control the second display when your in game it you Tabb you out

i just use the tv for showing Ts info and watching films

Have now decided to use the 27 inch as my main monitor :D

Problem I have is PR dosnt work with the widescreen

Resolution is 1280x72060hz 16:9

the splash screen shows monitor flickers like mad, then ctd with the monitor showing a hud of the resolution its running on (1280x720)

Have tried altering the Video.com file and also the target path of the .exe itself, no joy in any case, pondering the widescreen fixer

A 27 inch monitor running 1280x720 ?!?!

My 19" "Square box" (totally forgot the ratio ! :eek:) runs at 1280x1024 !

Dont you get some mega stretching/distortion on a 27 inch screen ?

Or is that the best res PR will do for your screen ?

You need to set the resolution in the PR shortcut...

..... +fullscreen 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

red is what i added to my shortcut for my custon res.. ignore all other setting.. this will override, place whatever numbers you need to run at..

I am about to upgrade our plasma, and was thinking about using our "old" 42" panasonic plasma as a monitor - before I lug the thing up 2 flights of stairs, does anyone think this is worth doing (its not HD which is the reason for the upgrade)?

Only if you want to play at 768×576 resolution.

Very. 10 year old 14" CRT monitors do 800*600 :)

no, 1080p is full HD which is a progressive scan of the image 720P still classes as hd _1024x768 is HD) plus a 720P tv Is still capable of a 1080 resolution by using interlaced scanning.

On a further note tried the shortcut Tommy, failness... splash screeen then CTD again :(

how can my TV not be compatible though when I can play to name a few, HL2, HL2:ep1, Far Cry, Theif, GWX, Deer hunter, UT2004, Starship troopers etc. etc.

Complete reinstall of BF2 and PR, It now loads past the splash screen... HOWEVER it'll ONLY load into 800x600... forcing ANY other rez via the shortcut or video.con gets me right back to square one, Testing with 800x600 causes me to crash whenever I try to load a map

Cain that ultra high setting was taking out in a earlier patch

Needed to reinstall PR, start up in 800x600, then start up with the shortcut Parameter for 1280x720 then needed to wipe the video.con file and start up again in 1280x720 and all is good
