View Full Version : Teamspeak Help
Now my PC is stable I finally got round to installing teamspeak at the weekend. Now I have a couple of questions:
1 )how do i mute all channels in teamspeak so I can keep it running whilst I play a PR round without having to listen to teamspeak chat?
2) When playing a round of PR I only want to talk/hear my own squad. However, when playing as Squad Leader I also want to be able to talk to other squad leaders and the commander. Do i do this through team speak or through BF2 VOIP ?
Cheers....
1) Why would you want to do that? We try to keep in-game chat to a minimum, but we're all there to have a laugh together too. [T&T] is about having fun.
2) Talking to other squad leaders should be relayed via commander - if there is one! If not, then teamchat (k) or if that SL is on TS then sure, use TS.
1) Click "Self" then "Mute Microphone/Speakers" - That will mute any sound from TS and you wont be able to transmit either. I have a hotkey set up as well so i can do this in game for when i want to talk on TS then turn it off again without tabbing out. To set it up go to "Settings" then "Key Settings". Go to "Add" then set it up as 'Toggle' 'Mute Output' with a key combination of your choosing (I use Tab and middle mouse button)
2) Yuo can't talk to other SL's in game. If there are SL's in TS you just have to do it that way and make sure you dont mute it.

Well I took the decision that if I ever ended up as SL again i'd make an effort and try, only way to gain experience. So last night I was leading a small squad of 4 on Mutrah I think, things were going quite well but I found it very hard to distinguish squad comms from general teamspeak chat as I could hear both. In fact it was quite a nightmare! So I thought the best thing would be to set up key bindings to be able to mute TS when it gets HOT in PR.
Then I thought it would be cool to have a TS channel for all squad leaders and commander as well as BF2 VOIP for our own squads. E.g. click C to talk to squad and B to talk to other SLs and commander.
Do you see what i'm getting at ?
@RICO, thanks for the advice...i'll spend some time with it tonight setting up the key bindings. I've already configured CTRL-SHIFT M, I, U to join Mec, Insurgents and US-UK channels but i really need a global mute key.
Don't mute!... if you want peace and quite.. as i'm sure we all do at times, go to a different channel. We have lots of them. No point having TS open but muted.
On another matter.. i'm gonna try and sort out a whisper key for each regular T&T SL and use that more in the future. I think that is a useful tool, especially if you dont want to be in the lobby with the rabble!
I see what you mean McFeckit - but as Tommy says just move elsewhere.
When you get to know people's voices you'll know what's TS and what's VOIP, but yeah, a different channel, or one for SLs is not a problem. There's plenty of channels, and we can create them on the fly if necessary!

I have it as:
Toggle Output = Numpad -
Toggle Input = Numpad Del
Both keys are nicely out of the way and out will almost never hit them for anything in a game so no chance of you dropping a grenade at your feet :D
Would add though that its not a very good idea to try and talk to the Co in TS. Its very hard to work out whose talking with just the in game sometimes as Co so i at least always have ts thoughly muted when commanding.
One suggestion I have that I found works quite well is bind keys to +/-10% volume .... That way if my squad is being quite VOIPY I drop TS to about half of BF2 .... That way I can still hear TS chat but it's easly distinguashable from BF2 and not as obtrousive when things are getting complicated
