Ahoy fellow U-boat nerds, We've got a thread already :D

Curious here Mr. Mcfeckit where'd you get the lifeboat mod? cant find it anywhere and what does the water drain mod do?

let us share tales of our sailings :D My best most recent one was flooding after having the living shit depth charged out of my boat and discovering that the VIIc can actually go deeper that its "Max" 225m depth...

Imagine the lights all going out as a barrage of 5 charges go off in quick succession... last time you checked your depth you were at 130m... the lights flicker and blink as more charges go off, fading into the distance... then you check the gauge and see it shooting past 240m
Chief engineer is saying constantly We're diving too deep sir!!!... You shout BLOW BALLAST!!! no change...again, Blow Ballast!!!!!
nothing still... 250m...
Ahead flank!!, Surface the boat!!!,
ALL HANDS TO DAMAGE CONTROL SYSTEMS!!!
Hit the roof chief!!! 260m... Slowing down now....
270m Is it too late? The noise of the hull buckling and crumpling around you constantly
Damage Report!??
280m... much slower now
285m... 284m...

Another hour of depth charging later and the noise stopped, couldn't use periscopes to check so relied on hydrophones to track the ship as it left the area... as night fell we surfaced the boat, secured from silent running to begin repairs and thank christ we managed to fix the diesals :D

Also Harrod is downloading this now, hopefully we should be running GWX 2.1 soonish (hard trying to get the 0.1 part) perhaps there's a T&T wolfpack in Harrod, Katash, Mcfeckit, Madtommy and I :D (and anyone else is welcome to come along)

Flicking through the 2.0 manual there's an incredible amount of real life operations and task forces floating about the oceans and numerous multiplayer scenarios involving historic naval battles.... Imho the ULTIMATE PR :D *WAAHHHHH, where's my minimap :(* :P

Should be a good laugh in multiplayer if you guys are up for it

Also curious to know how you chaps play the game? I'd assume you all have the daft stuff like limited fuel etc. on but do any of you manually input the Data in the TDC or manually collect target data?

I'm going to be turning on manually data gathering because it's so much easier with the Speech recognition mod and would be cool talking to the weaps exec to identify things before just pointing and clicking

Manually entering TDC data I can't be arsed with, that's what the weaps exec is paid for... :P

But I do loove plotting the course of ships on the map, using their AOB , and the compass n ruler with my bearing to figure out their exact course, getting out the speed charts to see where they'll be and when and intercepting them... Nothing like gathering the lil bit of info with the periscope, noting it all down, then waiting 20 minutes... popping back up to see if your figures were right
and then taking that shot ;)

Best GWX video ever, at least for the first few minutes with that beautiful music playing, slighty ruined for me when HIMMEFAHRT comes up on screen in big bold letters, did used to live in germany but that still makes me snicker....

This makes realistic black wispy exhaust smoke come from your sub's exhausts. The Water stream mod causes water to cascade down from the drain holes at the side of the sub.

When a ship starts to sink, you will see debris, lifeboats, dead people floating around the ship - adds to the immersion.

All above mods are JSGME enabled. However, you may get JSGME warnings when activating them, this means that the mod you're activating will over-write data - DO NOT CONTINUE. Get a file diff freeware program and compare the files JSGME complains about, then you can manually merge the changes from one file into the other on a case by case basis.

I've been at this sub sim malarchy for quite a while so feel free to ask any questions. That said, the best thing you can do is enrole yourself over at www.subsim.com (http://www.subsim.com). This is considered to be the best subsim community and its where all the GWX develpers hang out, its a one stop shop for all SH3 and SH4 mods.

One final thing, if you dont play at 100% realism (external cam allowed for screenshots but thats all), Dead is Dead and perform manual targeting then yer nowt but a pansy:p

Well what do i pay my weapons officer for? :P ill gather his data and tell him about it but he's gotta figure out my firing solution the lazy bugger

In fairness you're quite right, it is the Weapons Officer's job to plot the solution but I get a lot of satisfaction doing it yourself and still managing to hit the ship. Go on, try it on one of the stationary convoy training missions - you wont go back I assure you ;)

The next thing i'm waiting for is Tomi's VII/c 3D model. He's completely rebuilt the whole sub model from scratch, the detail is beyond belief!! Check it out here:

Also, you might want to download and install SH3 Commander - it randomizes a lot of things such as crush depth, sabotage, equipment failure as well as allowing you to change your assigned patrol grid, U-Boat number, flottilla etc etc. I never play without it. You can get it here:

I did used to use sh3 commander but I *think* it argues with the speech mod, nevertheless its worth a go

Harrod A U-Boat in GWX CANNOT take on a destroyer, whether going head on or anything

Ahead flank the deck gun SHOULD be very innaccurate even if you are controlling it, you cant hit the broadside of a barn door with that thing...

Destroyers carry 3-4 Main guns which are all Double barralled and FAR more accurate than yours are

AND the GWX guns have had their damage rates reduced by 67%

PLUS the destroyer can and will engage you at ranges where your gun wont even target him (over 8000 metres)

Even read the manual on it, it's pointless

Light cruisers you've been shooting perhaps, but you havnt been taking out destroyers with 2 hits from a deck gun, just does not happen EVER ask Mcfeckit, ask madtommy, Even ask subsim just does not happen


You've either got a duff GWX install or have switched on too many cheats that've had diff effects.

Every time you surface after an escort ship has been depth charging you you're guarenteed dead in under a minute

Good fun aint it Katash? training the speech SDK can get recognition up to 95% accurate though its pretty dam good stock

Whole new level of immersion though, nice to just lean back and bark orders at the crew... When youre running silent avoiding enemies youll find yourself whispering to the crew aswell...
