OK, I have seen a number of people having problems with lag and other assorted on-line troubles which in the majority of cases has nothing to do at all with your connection or the game servers.

Having just tweaked my system at home, I will here outline the source of info I used and can thoroughly recommend the content. Please make use of it as it does work.

One of the best sites for tweaks (not geeky things - actual working things). Make sure you click links that are embedded in the guides as they lead you to other guides on system performance, unessential services etc:

http://www.tweakguides.com/

Pay attention especially to these:

http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dTyp...e=guide&dId=434 (http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dType=guide&dId=434)

As for those gam0rz amongst us, you may find these useful as well:

Now, to the major business, the best source you can get is Black Vipers site over here:

http://www.blackviper.com/

In special interest there, as first time visitors may have trouble navigating around, is how to make different profiles for your machine, one dedicated to Games for example, especially on-line and another as a Super Tweaked profile. All profiles created are clones of your existing main one you use everytime you switch your PC on so that you still have access to all your files and games and shortcuts etc.

Organise new profiles here:

Get rid of unecessary services here:

http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm

As you are workign through that particular guide, remember that certain software you have installed may have added extra services to your machine. There application can be seen quite cleary in the services configuration he speaks about as it gives a description for everything in your machine's own services editor.

PLEASE, if you get the chance to do nothing else, look at Black Vipers site. It will make a big difference to the quality of your PC use. Please also look at the Tweak Guides mentioned first, ESPECIALLY the first of the Windows XP ones, as it mentions a few pieces of software that will assist clearing out your registry and also accesing your start up files so you can get rid of annoying stuff that starts up and lives in places like your system tray.

If you want more help, just post me here and I will explain any sections of the sites I have mentioned or just give you bettter advice in a given direction. I am not a Guru or Know It All, I learnt about PC's the hard way which is sometimes the best way as you are not focused on fixing the problems in one given focused direction.

[b]Oh and one MASIVE piece of advice before you touch ANYTHING on your PC with a view to using this info , as I take no liability if anythign happens to your machine. I am indicating these reference materials simply as that... reference materials.
