ok so ive been watching some videos of gameplay in project reality and whenever someone gets shot or bullets wizz by there heads or a nade goes off near them there screen barely goes blurry and lasts for like 2 seconds but when it happens to me my screen goes really blurry and i cant do anything and it gets laggy and slow and lasts for like 20 seconds and its anoying when someone is constanlty shooting at me and nades and shit is going off around me and i basically can't do anything about it, and i just can't do the infrantry role or i just get owned by suppression fire thingy.

anyone have the same problem and does someone know how to fix this?

If someone maintains fire on your supression the effect will obviously last longer.

Are you saying that the effect itself lags your puter out?

If so, then no, doesn't lag me out.

If you are having any graphic problems, try cleaning your cache out - sometimes rectifies it.

Yeah, I think I know your problem... currently the Supression Effect (SE) is based on your framerate. When the SE kicks in, it has a certain number of frames to be rendered on, and if your machine is only running at 10-20 FPS then the SE will last a lot lot longer than someone who's running at 100FPS (5-10 times longer, in fact).

First, do as Commando suggests - clear out your BF2 cache. You'll find detailed instructions for this with Google.

Then, check your in-game FPS.

press: `
(which is LEFT of the 1 key on most keyboards, above Tab)

type: renderer.drawfps 1
press: ENTER

You should now get a few red numbers on the top-left hand side of your screen, something like:

100/10 or 50/20, 30/33.33, 20/50 etc.

The FIRST number is your framerate. If it's particularly low (under 20-25) then you need to lower your graphics settings so you achieve a higher FPS.

Higher FPS means the SE will be quicker, your machine will render scenes faster and you won't get the graphics-based lag you're currently experiencing.

Ignore the second number, which is the time (in miliseconds) between each frame being rendered. It's basically the information as FPS - except FPS = "higher is better" and Time Between Frames = "lower is better". As FPS rises, TBF falls and vicea versa.

Come 0.8, the SE will be much quicker on all machines, so this should be less of a problem unless you come under heavy, sustained fire.

As Masaq says its being changed so if 0.8 is a close as we all hope it is there is little point in starting long discussions now...
