Hey folks,

I've just got a new PC with Vista Ultimate 64 on it; I have 5.1 surround sound logitech speakers.

In the configuration menu where I can test individual speakers, they all play and work correctly.

However, anywhere outside of the config menu (Games, music, general windows beepy sounds) only the front left/right and subwoofer work; the centre, rear left/right speakers don't make a peep!

I read ONE post somewhere that this is because drivers aren't fully compatable with Vista at the moment? (But that post was dated to '07? = / )

----

Second of all;

Does the volume level on your speaker dial when installing an O/S affect the over-all volume when turned on?

Much like how if you have a joystick with a throttle and you load a game before putting the throttle in neutal, you won't have as much forward/reverse engine as you would if you had the throttle in neutral when you loaded the game?

I ask because, on my old PC these speakers were LOOOOUD, even when I only used the 3 that're working now; but since plugging my new PC in I didn't put the volume dial to '0', and now even on full blast it's loud, but not as loud as it was.

Any help appreciated!

Well I've got XP installed now and am Installing all my games again. This means my PC only recognised 3 GB out of 8, but the 8 was really jus 'insurance' for when games get good anyway; so I don't really need anymore than 3 do I?

Only problem I've had so far is using sound recorder (when testing my mic works) it says 'not enough memory to complete application' when I try to stop it; but I've found off Microsoft's website this is because sound recorder limitations make it go doo-lally if your PC has more than 2GB :P

does 5.1 work in pr, ie can you tell the direction shots are coming from via the speakers?

You can tell where shots are coming from with a bog standard pair of stereo headphones and a reasonable sense of direction...

The 5.1 headphones I tried just didn't work at all (probably my fault) in games; whatever the range ahead/behind you'd hear crisp, but couldn't hear someone 1' to the side of you.
