View Full Version : Problem with VOIP

Greetings all,

Yesterday on our server.........I had a problem with VOIP. In options the check box is showing "checked", and the volume sliders are way up, but my team couldn't hear me.

Question: Do I need to have VOIP on as well as TS, or do they conflict?

Another Question: Will VOIP users hear me as I'm on TS (with VOIP checked OFF)?

I know my TS works as a couple of days ago I could be heard just fine when we were free falling into boats.

Any pointers?

Have you checked "Mic Boost"? That can sometimes be a problem.

Is that a VOIP setting? or Windows?

Windows setting in sound options. It can sometimes play silly buggers or just be unchecked.

Ok, thanks mate. I'll try that at lunchtime. Re my other question; can you use VOIP and TS at the same time?

Gunwitch

Aye you cna use TS and VOIP at the same time, Epoch always has both going off which makes it's difficult to tell if he's in game or bloody TS :D

But I'm guessing the only advantage ti having both running is if you're in a squad that has both T&T and non T&T members?

Sorry to ask so many questions....speaking ingame is a new experience for me:)

having both VOIP and TS with everyone talking at the same time is a bit of a nightmare as everyone is shouting contact directions at the same time - which is probably quite realistic actually !

its quite interesting when the people on TS are on the other side and start talking about where they are and what they are up to !

You go ahead and ask Squiffy.

I prefer having both running at the same time. I can talk to everyone and my squad. The only trouble is not to have the same button for in game voip and ts or like wardle says, you'll end up telling the enemy what you're up to :D

So from a social aspect it's great.

Yeah I see your point. Last night I was chatting with Cain et al, even though they were on the other side. Trouble is I couldn't talk to Hybrid, who was on MY side!

I guess the point I'm making is that yesterday lunchtime I could talk to you Ward) but our SL kept asking if I had a mic. Frustrating.

There is a VOIP bug that you may have caught - sometimes (and I get this a fair bit), VOIP will cut out and leave you unable to talk.

It's NOT the same bug that causes BF2 to mute the microphone when it loads the map up (but this is worth checking for in your case - make sure that as BF2 loads, it's not muting your mic in windows sound control).

What seems to happen to me is (and it's completely bloody random), is that sometimes the damn thing just "goes" and bingo, no green symbol when I press B.

Weirdly, it also kills Teamspeak too, and pressing my TS button (which is different to my in-game VOIP button for the above reasons) doesn't do anything.

If it IS the same problem I get, then rebooting PR/BF2 usually solves the problem. It tends to happen suddenly after a few hours of gameplay, but sometimes it can happen within 5 minutes of joining a server, or it won't happen at all for weeks.

Windows setting in sound options. It can sometimes play silly buggers or just be unchecked.

It's also an ingame option too - If it's enabled in Windows but unchecked ingame BF2 setting will overrite it when BF2 is run.

I got caught by that one a while back.

Thanks, More to thing about.

I just had the same problem. I joined a squad that had 4 people on VOIP, hit B, saw the little green thingy, and no-one could hear me.

When i do a mic test in Options I can't get the indicator to light up / move. Strange that TS is fine though.

No mate, although he was fecking ignoring my request for a rally point so I didn't have to keep walking 1200m through enemy infested territory to reach my squad!! I gave up after getting blasted 4 times in a row, and still no rally point.

I heard him calling me over VOIP, but i couldn't make myself heard.

Check your microphone works in TS.

Check the input is from your the mic you want to use - not a webcam or someit (Sound control panel in windows).

Your mic can work in TS but not in game if your input source is not correctly identified.

Cheers Commando, I suspected it was related to that. My Sound Control Panel doesn't make a lot of sense (as Heskey can confirm...he helped me with TS). We couldn't find a mic input slider at all.

I've just bought a soundcard, so hopefully that'll provide more options for me to configure the mic.

Bingo, Squiffy hits the win with the Masaq-style problem solving.

Can't get a piece of PC hardware to work properly? Uprgade! :D

You ARE talking to the man that spent £400 on a "Pentium Chip Upgrade" back in 1984ish just so I could play Wing Commander 3:D

Actually make that 1994ish............

There is a VOIP test app in the main BF2 program folder.

Can't remember what it's called, but I reckon the letters v o i and p might be in the filename.

The BF2 ingame VOIP slider doesnt work for me either - I think it's a record trigger threshold for when you change to 'Voice Activated' instead of 'Push To Talk'

One better too to use is the VOIP configure utility in your "C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2" Folder - BF2VoiceSetup.exe (Picture of headset with mic)

Looks like this:-

It will also give you an audible feedback so you can hear if it's working

Hope that helps

PM me if you need help with it.

oh yes - and I agree our SL last night wasnt too bright, the whole Rally point situation was stupid, plus there was someone hanging around the chinese main chucking flashbangs and generally being stupid !

The flashbang thing must've been after I'd left the server...didn't see that. What I DID see were several USMC swimming the river and crossing to the Chinese side whilst our SL was pushing north on the wrong side of the river! Hence my multiple death scenario...totally outnumbered every time I spawned at main.

Oh well, onwards etc etc.
