Watched ep.2 last night, I just cannot believe someone can blag their way through a TV program and have as much credability as he has, if anyone watched the series on gangs he did (especially the one where he was in the police armoury looking at all the seized weapons - they'll understand what I mean)

here is a (rough quote) example from RKIA ep.2 :- RK points to a mud wall that obviously has been hit with small arms fire - "yeah, yeah this mud wall has been hit with the apache's .30 cal - and you can see it has had no effect atall"

His previous series on gangs is even more festooned with his made-up bull***t - and the worse thing is you can see he hasn't got the faintest idea what he is talking about but is doing his best to fool the viewers into thinking he has some super-human encyclopedic knowlege of the subject.

on a side note it does make me laugh - especially when he cocks his ear the one side, listens to a volley of gunfire, whilst looking knowingly into the sky and then tells the veiwer "yea, yea we got 2 way traffic on the bullets now - there definatly 556's comming in - and there big!"

Dispite RK spoiling it by acting like a tit, I think RKIA is a great show and will be watching the rest of it.

I just know I'm gonna get flamed for this, surely tho I'm not the only one that thinks this.

Wow I feel better now.

Hmmm, have to disagree with ya!

RK is a bit cheesy I know & thinks he's still in ultimate force but at the end of the day he has had the bottle to go into combat unarmed.

I give anyone credit for that!

At the end of the day though to be fair they aren't going shoot for the geezer with the camera.

What I do have respect for is when he goes face to face with these sorta people who would loooove to kidnap an english celeb like him and he talks to them... that takes balls

But indeed, he's got "woo army" berk syndrome.. You can see when hes given a gun and is wearing a helmet the stupid beaming grin he has across his face... Sad

would anyone else have the balls to do this program?

U kiddin Cain? I think they WOULD target the press - especially with the nice distinctive blue helmet/vest!

After all the taliban aren't renowned for abiding by the geneva convention!

In my experience most blokes get a funny smile on their face when they handle a real weapon.....!

Would be nice to see a squaddies view of RK though - outside of the program!

Nah they're gonna be more concerned with the lads with guns pointing at them. When my dad used to command a load of blokes he'd get shot at, Ricochets off the ground etc, but because he was not the one returning fire he wouldn't keep getting shot at. that would be one of the 300 or so blokes hed consequently scream "ARRRRGH!!!" down the radio at :P... .Gunny knows what I mean lol

The lads are gonna be far more concerned killing the ones trying to kill them instead of wasting time looking for an unarmed berk hiding behind a rock recording gunfire sounds for tv :P

Not trying to downplay anything. He just has to slip up like a tonka toy once and he's fucked.
In short they're only likely to really be killed by standing in the line of fire trying to get a picture... Common sense normally overrules that but not always. All they have to do is keep their heads down and do as theyre told and no one is going ot be too fussed with them, though they'll of course like it to sound so...

Once a firefight's underway, mebbe. If you've got the option to ambush though and you're close enough to pick your shots - if I were Taliban etc, damn right I'd go for the guy with the film crew hanging around him.

No offence to anyone in the military, but the British media and public in general hardly stir up a shitstorm every time a squaddie gets unlucky.

On the other hand, the media go absolutely stir-fry batshit loco crazy every time a journo is kidnapped, wounded or killed. The outcry from the public is greater too.

If your aim is to force an invading nation out of your homeland, you don't win the fight by killing enemy troops. You win by making the conflict so unpopular back home that the other guys are recalled. Killing civilians makes the conflict more unpopular than killing troops.

On a serious note tho, I thought the way he was talking to the afghan civs about why they were there was completly out of order (although possably completly true - dont want to get into personal beliefs here) - those guys were obviously very angry with how they had been treated and they get some prick like him, standind there, grinning like a cheshire-cat, lecturing them on why they are wrong and he is right.

Masaq
30-01-08, 22:20
Why, what was he saying?

commando-101
30-01-08, 22:23
Yeah, agree with you there Katash - praps he was hoping for a nice cosy chat!!

thedoombringer0
30-01-08, 22:34
yeah it was a bit harsh of him forcing his opinion on them but the afgan civie did the same back

Masaq - http://youtube.com/watch?v=b4NlB0pwxmE <- about 40 seconds in you'll see the conversation.

The CO looked quite uneasy in the background - I get the impression he wasn't far off from being told to 'leave it kemp.'

Masaq
30-01-08, 23:24
Ta for that.

Yeah, that big smug grin of his is not the way to "win hearts and minds" like he says they need to lol.

Found it interesting that he asked what it was that needed doing, and then immediately turned on them when they said what it was they wanted. Fact remains though that if the river floods their houses, they need to deal with that lol.

Looks to me like there was a massive gap in communication - Kemp wasn't explaining why they were there very well, and the local chappy wasn't explaining that they needed to see physical improvemets to the land and not just the removal of the Taliban.

I caught this the other night just as he was lecturing the locals. Both my g/f and I were like 'who the fuck does he think he's talking too'! He showed them no respect or cultural understanding at all. In polite Afghan society I'm sure they'd have been quite justified to cut his balls off.

As for the Taleban capturing him - I don't think it's as bad as that, compared to Iraq. On the whole, the Taleban seem quite happy talking to journalists in order to get their propaganda out.

I caught an episode of Ultimate Force elsewhere on the depths of Sky TV right after RKIA. What a cock. Though it was cool seeing some student chap blown to shit by a sniper rifle. ouchies.

ultimate force was good in its time

Yeah Epoch - LAY OFF ULTIMATE FORCE! LOL

Ultimate Farce was watchable until they dropped Andy Curran and just "killed off" his squad in the first 3 minutes of season 3. After that it was a pile of soggy poo

Heskey

I tried to watch it, but I couldn't take a program called ULTIMATE FORCE seriously.

I never see the GANGS one he did, but as said before it does take balls to go out and do that, But then it takes balls for any of our boys to go out there, the only reason i watch it is to see what i will be walking into in the near future.

thedoombringer0

the gangs one was good too

I wonder what the soldiers he is with think of him, on one hand they are sent into a warzone and paid a wage that is considered to be crap while they have a guy tagging along with them being paid thousands - I'd be pretty p**ed off.

I would imagine they're well chuffed having their mate all seeing them being filmed on TV at war etc etc and also pleased about being able to knock about wwith ross kemp (gay as it may sound...) but more than likely the fookin hate him as soon as they come under fire lol

The big bald bugger with the bright blue helmet "are you getting this Ron? :D"

Whilest I'm concerned about my best mate getting shot in the face :) I wouldn't like that personally, I wouldnt like that at all

I Really enjoyed the first 2 episodes although he talks in military terms alot i find it better, i hate it when they explain what IED and RPG mean 10000s of times all in all 10/10 as far as afghan documentarys go its pretty sweet

Dont know many reporters then would do that :o

Watched the first episode last night and found it very interesting.

The overall layout of the program also seemed very well done. (music, camera, editing etc)

Quote Katash; I wonder what the soldiers he is with think of him, on one hand they are sent into a warzone and paid a wage that is considered to be crap while they have a guy tagging along with them being paid thousands - I'd be pretty p**ed off.

Well thats the reality of being a grunt. A meager pay for doing a potential deadly job. At least Ross Kemp seems to be trying to tell "their" story to the public.

That is after the raw tapes have been edited for the producers taste off course....

its a good idea but lots is obviously edited out

Just caught this weeks episode on sky+ - been a bit busy this week!

Found it compelling & quite hard hitting this week as they concentrated more on the troops than the action.

I've got to say again that RK has balls to do it but it's obvious who does the real work out there!

thedoombringer0
08-02-08, 09:38
yeah the one this week was pretty good with the british base in the middle of a taliban contorled town and all that seperated it from the main taliban compound of the area was a few mud houses and abot 100m of open ground

This weeks was really awesome. It was much more down to earth than the other ones. The scene of getting Chris Grey out was insane, that's a heck of a job to hold down on a day to day basis.
