Finally got LOMAC, FC and my x52 installed last night.

All seem to be running fine but there are so many frick'n commands to remember.

This may take a few days to get used to it.

I guess I just need to spend some time learning and getting the x52 profile configured :)

The main commands you need are the ones that keep blue above you, and green below .. :p

*Grin* Yup, you got it in one. A shitload of keys, indeed.

Learning how to string 'em all together quickly and efficiently to make the plane do what you wanna do takes a bit of time lol. I'm just about competetent operating the A-10 and F-15, haven't even really started getting to grips with the Russian jets yet lol.

First off, set yourself up a basic config with your joystick and throttle.

Then start off with the basic training- fly all the UPT, A-10 and F-15 missions through at least once letting the instructor take you through, and at least once flying them manually yourself.

That will give you an idea of how to make the planes do stuff (I wrote down a set of notes for the F-15's radar, a whole side of A4 paper lol).

That will also give you an idea of what key commands and combinations you need on your stick, and which ones you don't want. For example - although finding "RightWindowsKey + ALT + END" to shut off *just* my left engine when it's burst into flames is a right pain in the arse, it's not something I have to do many times in a flying session, so I don't put it on the stick.

On the other hand, I thought that using , . / and ; to move the radar target designator and Maverick missile seeker head around was going to be a pain in the butt, so I put them onto the joystick's base buttons. After another hour flying, I found that actually that was far more hassle than it was worth, and removed them - and carried on using the keyboard for those tasks.

Spend some time getting to know your joystick, leave your keymap (it's in the manual) out on the desk and if you're flying online with us, don't hesitate to ask us over Teamspeak! :D

lol banner - u better add 'chaff & flares' & oh yes...'eject'!! ;););)

Banner - you sure about that? :p

Unless you turn the radar on with I, your missiles won't be guided towards anything.
Unless you press ALT and I, your targets will know you're locking them up and will evade like anything.
Unless you adjust the range with SHIFT and - or +, you probably won't see anything.
Unless you adjust the target designator with ; , . / you won't be able to track anything.
Unless you track a target with TAB, you won't be able to gain information about anything.
Unless you know the range, speed and direction of a target, you won't be able to hit anything...

*Grin* Sorry chap, but Commando's right - unless you add a few more keys to your repetoire, you'll be pressing Q a lot, usually followed shortly afterwards by ALT and E and E and E :D

...

Oh and then you'll have to press ESC and left-click on "Recover" :p

Thanks for the comments and I will use the next couple days to get the hang of the controller config. and training.

But look at it this way ... next week you guys can use my plane as a drone for practice and watch my fall to earth in a fire ball :D

S'ok, we have Aly and Rob for that :D Rob's particularly funny to blue-on-blue because you suddenly hear "what the f-k!" in his amazing accent whenever he's not expecting a "friendly" missile :D Aly is also fun, except he takes fireballs personally and comes after you again and again and again if you accidentally mistake him for a MiG :D

Commando is nearing professional status in the F-15 and putting us all to shame when it comes to actually shooting at other aircraft properly, Epoch and MadTommy are solid air to mud pukes (and Tommy does most of our mission design, too) whilst Gunny provides us all with a running commentary of his aerial woes. Exo just likes making things pink. I do British-Airways style landings :D

Banner, like you, is a new flyboy and has yet to take off his stabilizers/training wings :)

Aerial woes indeed
Just because my bloody plane is always broken :p

I am a the stage where I still think I am flying a 737. And when I get that beeping noise I think, ooo whats that? *looks around panel* BOOM "oh, damn, I forgot about the missiles!":p

Wow - imagine how much ordnance you could hang from a 737's wings :D

Thats how i got my practice, in a 777 :p

I had the chaffs & flares figured out already ...

But the radar, i know its there, i know how to move the crosshair about ...
But i just select my air to airs (usually Aim-7's ?) and wait for the box, get lined up, fire & forget.

So, looks like i'll have to do all the training missions then :p

Yes. Some of them are bugged though.

You might prefer to watch them here (http://bvr.jpn.org/lockon/training/FC_eng/index.html)on the web instead.

You'll need the DivX player.

Bugged ? Which missions ?

Will take a look at the vids, cheers :)

Air 2 Air(A2A) heat seeking short range missile = AIM 9 SIDEWINDER

A2A medium range semi-guided missile = AIM 7 SPARROW

A2A medium range fully guided missile = AIM 120C AMRAAM

AIM 7's are not fire & forget - u have to keep some form of radar lock.

AIM 9's are fire & forget - as long as they have a heat source to track - although can be used with radar as well

AIM 120C's are fire & forget if locked on to a target but can also be fired in other modes (such as visual & bore sight) - It is these misslies that are a little bugged in that they do not perform as well as they should

Yeh, it is the AIM7's im firing, and i do keep a visual/HUD lock on the target

only ever had one not hit, because of a sneaky pilot and a bloody hill >_<

So, gonna have to learn about the radar. So much stuff >_<

I have only 'mastered' the A-10 (I say that loosely). I learned with a logitech stick. I FINALLY bought the X52 Saitek recently. Best way to program it is to get familiar with whichever plane you are flying FIRST with just the basic setup on the stick... pay attention to the keyboard commands you use the most often (do the tutorials, either live or watching) adding them to your profile as you go along. You can pop out of a game and quickly add more as you like. Seperately named profiles for each plane. It took me a few minutes to catch on to HOW to make a profile, but after ya do, it's easy.
I started with the A-10 because it is the easiest/least complicated to learn. YMMV, have fun and don't ya LOVE that X52 ?!!
